Travels of President Barack Obama—May 2012

President Barack Obama  First Lady Michelle Obama   Vice President Joe Biden  ||  Former Gov. Mitt Romney

During May President Obama made eight trips out of the DC area.  He held his first official campaign rallies on May 5 in Columbus, OH (reported crowd of 14,000) and Richmond, VA (reported crowd of 8,000).  Obama's May travels put him in five battleground states—Ohio, Virginia, Nevada, Colorado and Iowa.  HIs official schedule included a surprise visit to Afghanistan to begin the month, drawing attention to one-year anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011; the G8 summit at Camp David; the NATO summit in Chicago; and commencement addresses at Barnard College (NY), Joplin High School (MO) and the U.S. Air Force Academy (CO).  Eleven fundraisers were noted; the biggest was a May 10 dinner in the backyard of actor George Clooney which raised a record $15 million according to news reports.
