Americans Elect

"Dem Wife and Repub Husband: This is the first time we've agreed politically" +
  1:49 web video from Dec. 15, 2011.

Jenna Cochran: Hi, my name is Jenna Cochran.  I live in Jackson, Mississippi and I have two children.

Now I'm working for Americans Elect, but I had gotten out of the political realm for many, many years.  I had some really bad experiences.  All there was was constant fighting.  So I mulled over for a long time whether or not I wanted to go back into politics with having such a bad experience in the past.

But I would think that the thing that really tipped me over the edge to make sure that this was something that I wanted to do was discussing it with my husband.

He has always been a staunch Republican and I have always been a liberal Democrat.  Our votes have always cancelled each other out.  We've never agreed on anything.  And he and I were discussing this opportunity.  It's the first time ever that he and I have ever agreed on anything politically, and I think it will be the first time ever that he and I might vote for the same presidential candidate in 2012.

And so if this organization can bring our two votes together, it can bring anyone together.

Americans Elect is a process that everyone can be involved in.  We want to feel like everyone's vote counts, not just those in New Hampshire and in Iowa.  Everyone can be a part of this process.

We think that Americans Elect is bringing back my faith in the political system.
