Bachmann for President
"We Can't Settle on Immigration" +
1:24 web video from Sept. 30, 2011.
Bachmann: Last week we conservatives were accused of not having a heart. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's just that we have a mind to go with that heart, and failing to act rationally under rule of law has created chaos on our borders.
We can't settle for a president who would encourage more illegal
immigration through magnet policies like tuition breaks for illegal
aliens or their children. That's an abuse of an executive
power. It's unfair to students who are here legally, and it's a
risk to our national security.
We can't settle for a president who says he supports states' rights
but abandoned the state of Arizona when they attempted to do what the
federal government wouldn't: enforce immigration laws.
We can't settle for a president who thinks building the fence to
secure the border is idiocy and on its face ridiculous.
We can't settle for a president who doesn't understand that illegal
immigration is illegal and shouldn't be rewarded.
I won't settle for porous borders; I will build a fence. And I
won't settle for treating college students who are legally in our
country unfairly, and as president I'll support the states in securing
their borders.
Just because we have policy differences, doesn't make us any less
compassionate.
Notes: Curiously the press release
announcing this video has a "full text of the video" which is on the
same subject but decidely different:
Illegal immigration is a problem in the
United
States and
unfortunately the federal government has failed us all to often. We
have a narcoterrorism war on our southern border. As President of the
United States I will build the fence – every mile, every yard, every
foot, every inch. American needs to have its southern border protected.
I
will also fully resource our border security guards. I will tell them,
'If you uphold the law, we will have your back.' I'll do the same for
our ICE
agents and the interior of the United States
as well. For too long our laws on the books haven't been enforced. The
problem isn't the laws; the
problem has been the politicians. I will stand behind our laws and stand behind our agents, and
I'll have their back. Also as President, I'll make
sure we no longer enforce or support policies that act as magnets to
bring illegal aliens into the United States. We need to stop taxpayer
subsidies
to illegal aliens. As President of the United States, you have my word;
I will solve the problem of illegal aliens.
