"Herman Cain Stands with Us - Kent" +
1:30 web video from Aug. 3, 2011.
[Music] Kent Short [voiceover and to
camera]: I am an American.
My name is Kent Short and I'm a butcher. I turn steers into
steaks.
What this is is a sirloin tip. For this particular customer
we're going to cut it thin and we're going to use it for carne
asada. Carne asada is very popular now.
I feel Herman Cain should be the next president because he works for
the people and believes in the people.
The economy for a small business owner right now, to me, is in the
tank. He understands what we need to do to get to the next level.
These politicians that spend their time at Columbia and Harvard
reading newspapers and reading term papers, all they do is speak well;
they've never experienced it. Herman Cain has experienced
it.
He's just a commonsense guy that's for the people, not for big
government.
When they asked him a question he was just very up front and honest
and says I can't give you an answer because I don't know what all the
facts are. And that's what we're doing wrong. People were
giving answers without facts, and as soon as I heard him say that I
said this is the only guy that's got any sense in the whole thing.
Notes: Although uploaded on
July 28, this video was not promoted until August 3. It is the
first of
what is projected to be a series of "Herman Cain Stands With Us" videos
showing regular Americans. The closing part of the video is a
reference to Cain's performance in the May South Carolina debate.
A clip from that is shown, but this is mainly Kent Short and scenes of
the butcher shop. There is a mix of color and B&W
shots. It is interesting to compare this video to an Obama video "August 4, 1961" from the same time.
Text of August 3 email:
Friends,
In the crowded field of GOP presidential candidates, Herman Cain stands out. On a stage
of career politicians, Herman stands for more
than 40 years of real job creation experience. In our communities, he stands for our values and our vision for America.
Now, many candidates are asking us to stand with them as they compete
for the Republican nomination and ultimately,
the presidency. Instead, Herman
Cain is asking for permission to stand with us.
Herman
has
known
every facet of life of ordinary, hard-working Americans.
Through "sweat equity" and determination,
Herman rose up through poverty and up the
corporate ladder. He, like us, knows what it's like to struggle and to dream. He understands the joys and the challenges of raising a family, making a
payroll and planning for the future.
That's why he talks
like us, acts like us and thinks like us.
Herman Cain is one of us. That's why he wants
to stand with us.
This inspired us to develop a series of videos called "Herman Cain Stands With Us,"
showcasing
the
hard-working, decent Americans who, like you, know that
Herman Cain has what it takes to turn this
country around and preserve the American
Dream.
In the first video of the series, we visit Kent
Short,
a
butcher from Santa Paula, California. Kent is a small
business owner who "turns steers into steaks" (vegetarians, cover your
eyes!) and
whose carne asada is his delicious trademark. Kent, like so many of
America's job creators, feels that this economy is "in the tank" and that the federal government only makes things
worse with sky-high taxes and regulations that
cripple businesses.
Watch the video to find out why Kent
knows Herman Cain stands
with him:

himself! Deadline for submissions is August 31, 2011.
