Obama for America

  1:58 web video from Oct. 25, 2011.

[Music] Obama: Four years ago the cynics said that young Americans were apathetic, that you didn't care about the direction of this country or have what it takes to change it.  That's not what I saw.  You proved them wrong by helping to build a movement for change.

A lot has happened since then that you should be very proud of.

We've ended combat operations in Iraq and all of our troops will be home for the holidays.

Don't ask, don't tell is now history.

Comprehensive health reform is becoming a reality, and already one million more young adults have health insurance because of it.

And after a huge battle we put new rules in place to protect consumers and our economy from recklessness on Wall Street.

All that is thanks to you.  But we have so much more to do.

An economic crisis the likes of which we haven't seen since the Great Depression has battered the middle class and made jobs harder to come by, particularly for folks just out of school.

This is a moment that demands everything we've got to put our people back to work and rebuild an economy that works for everyone, not just the folks at the top.  And that's really what this election's going to come down to: whether we'll come together to finish the work we started or sit back and watch as the progress we've made gets rolled back.  I'm asking you to make your choice.  I'm asking you to join me.

Here's the first step.  Go to BarackObama.com/youngamericans and say you're in.  Then get the word out there.  Tweet it, facebook it, whatever you want to do.  And ask everybody to get involved in the work that's already starting on campuses and in communities all across the country.

There are lots of things we don't know about next year's election, but something I'm completely sure of is that this movement needs you in it.  You're our new generation of leaders, and we're stronger together than we could ever be on our own.

So let's do this.  Thanks, and see you out there.
