Obama for America

"Ask Mitt Romney Where He Stands on Raising Your Taxes" +

Stephanie Cutter: Hi, I'm Stephanie Cutter, I'm a deputy campaign manager here at Obama for America and I wanted to give you an important update about something that happened that affects you.

The House of Representatives rejected an important bipartisan proposal that would have prevented your taxes from going up at the end of the year.  Now protecting middle class tax cuts for ordinary working Americans shouldn't be complicated, but in the House of Representatives it is.  They won't protect middle class tax cuts unless they can also protect tax cuts for the wealthy or build a new big oil pipeline through the middle of the country.  Now that's not what this should be about.

This should be about ensuring that we can protect our economic recovery, this should be about protecting middle class families.  Taxes on 160 million Americans could go up at the end of the year, and we could put our economic recovery at risk, potentially affecting up to a million jobs according to independent economists across the country.

While House Republicans made their position clear today in opposing this protection for working families, we don't know where Mitt Romney stands.  At first he came out against the payroll tax cut; he called it a bandaid even though it's a $1,000 more each year in your pocket.  And then he came out for it when he realized that all of America needed this tax cut.  But we don't know where he stands today.  Does he stand with the United States Senate that overwhelming bipartisan support, 89 Senators including Mitt Romney's own home state Republican Senator supported this clean extension of the middle class tax cut or does he stand with House Republicans?  We don't know.

If reporters don't ask him or you can't get to him, then we will.  I want you all to use this page to Tweet Mitt Romney and ask him.  We need to know.  And make sure you tell your friends about this page.  Let's get Mitt Romney to go on record.

We need you to make your voices heard right now.  Thank you for your help.
