Pawlenty for President

"Truth Tour: NYC Debt Clock" +
2:22 web video from May 27, 2011.

[Music; nat. sound] Pawlenty: I'm running for president to tackle our nation's crushing debt and deficit load.  It is out of control, it's irresponsible, and we've got to tackle that big challenge with real solutions and real leadership, and we've got to get this economy going again and growing jobs.  Unfortunately our present president, President Obama, he has a campaign plan but he doesn't have an economic plan.  I do.  We were telling the truth all across this country this week about our real challenges and what it's really going to take to fix it.

For example, we went to Iowa and told the great people of Iowa we can't afford the ethanol subsidies any more; they're going to have to be phased out gradually over time.

We went to Florida and talked to seniors and others about what it's really going to take to fix Social Security and our other entitlement programs.  Working together and being honest with each other we can do that as well.

And then we went to Washington, DC and told the bureaucracy there that they shouldn't get better pay and benefits than the people who are paying their bill, the taxpayers.

Then we came to New York City, the home of the finance industry to tell them a hard truth as well.  No more bailouts.  We've got to get back to the point where markets and people's good idea and good work determine success and failure, not whether you have a powerful lobbyist in Washington, DC.  So no more bailouts for Wall Street, and no more bailouts to other countries through the IMF either.

Those are the kinds of approaches I'm going to take during this campaign and as president.

With your help, we can get this country back on track, and restore America and America's promise.  But in order to do that, we're going to need real solutions and real leadership, not just more fluffy talk.

Fluffy talk from President Obama doesn't put gas in the tank of our cars, it doesn't pay our grocery bills, it doesn't pay our mortgages, and his fluffy talk doesn't buy our children's clothes or meet our other needs.

We need to make sure we have a president who will step forward and have the courage to tell the truth and lead on these issues that are going to make or break the future of our country.  President Obama won't, I will, and I hope that you'll join our effort.

Thanks for coming to TimPawlenty.com; I hope you're enjoying our team and come back often.

Notes: The video highlights Pawlenty's "truth tour" (+).  After an opening bit with quick cuts, the rest of the video is close ups of Pawlenty, apparently on a street in NYC, talking to the camera.  The sound track is a bit loud, almost competing with Pawlenty's remarks.
