  2:33 web video from Dec. 17, 2011.

[Music] Perry: I like these debates.  As a matter of fact I hope Obama and I debate a lot and I'll get there early.  I'll talk about what we've done in the state of Texas, I'll talk about passing a balanced budget amendment to the United States Congress, I'll talk about having a part time Congress that I think Americans are ready for.  There are a lot of folks that said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback.  There are people that stood up and said well he doesn't have the right throwing mechanisms or you know he's not playing the game right, and you know he won two national championships and that looked pretty good.  We were the national champions in job creation back in Texas.  Let me tell you, I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses.  [crowd roaring SFX]

Perry: If I'm the President of the United States and I find out there is an operation like "Fast and Furious" and my Attorney General didn't know about it, I would have him resign immediately.  [crowd roaring SFX]

Text: "Perry had a very good debate" Neil King, Wall Street Journal - 12.15.11

Perry: ...Three years you would think that this President would learn how to work in Washington, DC.  If there's ever been a greater example of on the job training this is it, and it couldn't have been at a worse time for America.  We need a president who has that governing, executive experience, someone who understands how to work with both sides of the aisle.  Frankly we should never have gotten to this point at all.  The idea that he walked away from the work at hand and we had a "super committee" that was put into place that was going to fail on its face.  That's the type of leadership that I've been working at [timer bell] as the Governor of Texas for the last 11 years.

Perry: Today's the 220th anniversary of the signing of the Bill of Rights, and one of those, the Tenth Amendment, I like a lot.  And the reason is because that's how our Founding Fathers saw this country set up where we had these laboratories of innovation.  That's the reason I've called for a part-time Congress.  Cut their pay in half.  Cut their time in Washington in half.  Cut their staff in half.  Send 'em home.  [cheers, applause]  Let 'em get a job like everybody else back home has and live within the laws of which they passed.

Q: They worked 151 days last year.  How much more would constitute part time?

Perry: I would suggest to you maybe 140 days every other year like we do  in Texas.

Perry (in Iowa): I will go to Washington, DC and  have your back if you'll have my back here in Iowa.  God bless you... [cheers]
