"Nurses
for
Obama"
+
2:34 web video from May 10, 2012.
[Music]
Obama: America's nurses are the beating heart of our medical
system. In moments where people are most vulnerable, most
worried, nurses are there.
Michelle:
I
think
that nurses have a unique insight because we spend so much time
with our patients.
Laura:
We
share
the triumphs, we share their weakness, we share their pain.
Mary:
We're
accustomed
to looking more holistically at what it is that you as
a patient need.
Laura:
Before
Obamacare,
as a nurse, you would hear such heart-wrenching
stories... I had a Stage 3 ovarian cancer patient and her husband
started crying in my arms because he showed me the notice where the
insurance policy had been canceled.
Michelle: I was tired of seeing my patients not get the services that they need because their insurance company won't cover it.
Laura:
How
can
you deal with that when this patient needs the care.
Michelle: Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, families are in control of their decisions, not the insurance companies.
Mary:
The
Affordable Care Act really benefits all Americans. It
provides access to preventive services across every age group and all
populations.
Laura:
This
is a good law; this is helping all of us. We need to get the
correct information out there.
Mary:
Let
me go over some benefits that you now have covered because the
president signed the Affordable Care Act into law. You no longer
have a co-pay to get your mammogram, nor is there a deductible for that.
The reason it's so important that people get
preventive services is that we know we can stop problems in their
earliest stage where they're likely to be curable.
Michelle:The
Affordable
Care Act and the preventive services that is covers is going
to make our country healtier because it's a step in the right direction
towards having a health care system instead of a sick care system.
Mary:
We
know wellness care works.
Michelle:
Preventive
care saves lives, saves money and saves time, so I can't
understand would want to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Laura:
I'm
a nurse for Obama because I've seen how it's helped my patients.
Laura:
I
love Obamacare.
Notes: The video features
three nurses: Michelle from Belle View, WA, Laura from Casselberry, FL
and Mary from Oak Park, IL.
