Campaign Videos (July 2012)

Forty-one Obama videos were noted in the month of July.  The videos continue to show a broad range.  A baker's dozen attack or respond to Romney.  A significant number target specific constituencies (rural, veterans, GLBT, disabillities, Jewish).  "Steadfast," which portrays the president as a strong supporter of Israel [America & Israel: Standing strong Together], was released coinciding with Romney's trip to Israel.  It is significantly longer than most of the Obama videos (as was a pro-Israel video from January).  Five of the videos were straight speeches or speech excerpts by Obama or Biden.  Celebrities include actress Nia Long, Beyoncé, Zach Wahls (GLBT message), and singer Carole King (rural message).  Another interesting video is "100 Days," a fast-paced effort designed to encourage people to get involved in the campaign.  A cute video from the end of the month is "President Obama Donates."

By contrast 14 videos were found from the Romney campaign.  Most of the Romney videos attack Obama; many use the "If you've got a business, you didn't build that" quote, including several "These Hands" videos.  Also interesting are "We Need Mitt Romney," which features footage and testimonials from Romney's appearance at the NAACP, and the unlisted APIAVote video, which the Romney campaign posted on that coalition page.
