Obama for America

"Fair Share" +

:30 ad from Sept. 25, 2012 in CO, FL, IA, NV, NH, NC, OH and VA.

Obama (voiceover): I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

[Music] Male Announcer: When Mitt Romney dismissed 47% of Americans for not pulling their weight, he attacked millions of hard working people making 25, 35, 45 thousand dollars a year…

They pay Social Security taxes. State taxes. Local taxes. Gas, sales, and property taxes.

Romney paid just 14 percent in taxes last year. On over 13 million in income. Almost all from investments.

Instead of attacking folks who work for a living…

Shouldn’t we stand up for them?

Notes: While the text on screen says, "Paid 14% in federal taxes," the announcer pares that to, "Romney paid just 14 percent in taxes last year."

From the press release...

Obama for America released a new television ad today titled “Fair Share.” When Mitt Romney callously dismissed 47 percent of Americans for not pulling their weight, he attacked millions of hardworking people who already pay a significant share of their income in taxes – including Social Security, state taxes, local taxes, gas, sales, and property taxes. Mitt Romney paid just 14 percent in federal taxes last year on over $13 million of income, a lower tax rate than many middle-class families. And Romney believes that multimillionaires like himself should continue to pay a lower tax rate than many middle-class families. But instead of accusing hardworking Americans of failing to pay their fair share, shouldn’t we stand up for them?
