Musician Chris Holly performs at “First in the South,” a town hall style function featuring a meet and greet with former Speaker of the House and current Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich
The “First in the South” presidential candidate’s town hall will be held at the College of Charleston’s Sottile Theater on Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. The event is designed to gather support for the GOP party, as well as allow attendees to participate in a traditional town hall style question and answer session with Gingrich.
Holly will provide entertainment for the attendees with songs including his remake of the Bob Dylan classic “The Times They are A-Changin.” This will be the sixth Republican candidate that Holly has performed with as he has also appeared with Governors Jon Huntsmann and Rick Perry, Rep. Michele Bachmann, Sen. Rick Santorum and Herman Cain. Videos of each performance are available on his YouTube channel found here.
Dubbed “The Tea Party Rocker,” Holly plans to perform with each Republican candidate, and hopes to continue to stump with the party’s official nominee some time in 2012. He states that his feeling on President Obama’s direction for America was the driving force behind his decision to become involved.
“I don’t feel that President Obama is leading our great country in the right direction. I decided to get involved with the change that I feel needs to occur. My music was the best way for me to do that,” Holly states.
As a touring musician for more than two decades, Holly admits that he seen and been involved with his own fair share of stories while on the road. But the media coverage and Secret Service style of security involved with presidential candidates is something that has provided a brand new experience for Holly.
“I have toured the world with bands like Slayer and Hootie and the Blowfish, but these have been some of the most unique gigs I’ve ever been a part of. But it’s been a lot of fun. The experience of watching an election first hand is unforgettable. And I’ve gotten so much hate mail from Obama supporters and praise from Glenn Beck fans that I won’t soon forget this experience,” Holly says.
