Bachmann Announces Hiring of Political Veterans to Enhance Efforts in Iowa, South Carolina and Nationally

Urbandale, Iowa - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann announced today the hiring of political veterans Ron Thomas as Senior Advisor for South Carolina and Guy Short as National Political Director. The new staff additions are part of the expanding campaign efforts to grow in the early caucus and primary states.

"I am thrilled to have professionals like Ron and Guy joining the team in their new capacities," Bachmann said. "Both bring professional talents that will be invaluable as we continue to meet voters and share my constitutional conservative views and values in key primary states."

Thomas served as President George W. Bush’s appointee as deputy assistant secretary for policy in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. He also served as the designated federal official for the Secretary’s Advisory Committee of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom Veterans and Families. In 2004, Mr. Thomas was elected second vice chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party. He was a delegate to the 2004 Republican National Convention, vice chairman of the South Carolina delegation, and the vice president of the South Carolina Republican Party Convention.

"Ron has a tremendous reputation and impressive experience in the political arena," Bachmann said. "We are fortunate to have Ron on the team; his contacts in South Carolina will be an asset to our campaign."

Short has been serving as a senior advisor to Bachmann for President since her announcement in June and operated as Michele Bachman's general consultant in her 2010 campaign. He has worked with numerous national and statewide political clients including Todd Akin for Senate, Susan B. Anthony List and Independent Women's Voice. Mr. Short additionally serves on the Board of Directors for the National Right to Work Committee and the Colorado Family Institute. He has also served as campaign manager and chief of staff to Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave from 2003-2008. He has been a delegate to the past four Republican National Conventions (1996-2008), serving on the Rules Committee in 2008.

"Guy has proven himself to be an important part of our team, playing an integral part in our victory at the Iowa straw poll in August," Bachmann said. " I have every confidence he will guide our political team to victory in the Iowa caucus and through the nominating process."
