Democratic Candidates
President Barack Obama announced the launch of his 2012 campaign on
April 4, 2011 in an email and web video. He did not face
a credible primary challenger, although early in the cycle there was
some talk that if he displeased the left wing
of the
party too much such a challenge might
materialize. Most commonly mentioned were former Sen. Russ
Feingold
(WI) and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (OH) and former Sen. Mike Gravel
(AK/VA).
