Democratic National Convention Committee Issues Request For Proposal for Transportation Services Vendor
Seeking companies to provide buses, design and manage elaborate, secure shuttle bus system for transporting delegates
CHARLOTTE – The Democratic National Convention Committee today
issued a request for proposal for a transportation services vendor for
the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The proposal can be
found at
the DNCC website, www.demconvention.com.
During convention week, the DNCC will use a shuttle bus system of
approximately 250 motor coach vehicles to transport the approximately
6,000 delegates, and thousands of other officials, from their
DNCC-contracted hotels to official convention proceedings. The
shuttle
system will allow delegates and guests to have secured and reliable
transportation, and will reduce the number of vehicles on the road
during convention week.
The transportation services vendor will be responsible for providing
motor coach transportation and transportation management services,
including developing a comprehensive transportation plan to and from
more than 150 hotels and various DNCC events, supplying full-sized
motor coaches that conform to DNCC guidelines, providing on-site
operation support and staff, creating maps and diagrams, developing and
submitting routings for approval, developing contingency plans,
tracking vehicle movements, and more.
The deadline to submit bids is Feb. 24. Small companies who wish
to
bid, but do not have the resources to fulfill the full contract
obligations, are encouraged to partner with other companies in their
bid to leverage their resources.
The DNCC has previously awarded contracts for construction management,
event architect, event and exposition services, and housing services
provider. It has also issued an RFQ for a secure printing company
to
print credentials.
The DNCC will evaluate the proposals based on numerous criteria,
including, but not limited to: experience, reliability, relationships
to Charlotte, North Carolina, and the surrounding region, participation
of union labor, women, minorities and persons with disabilities, and
local resources to support the endeavor.
The request for proposal is just one step in the DNCC’s outreach to
local businesses. On Sept. 1, the DNCC and Committee for
Charlotte
2012 announced the publication of an online vendor directory that will
allow vendors to search for local businesses for their
convention-related needs. The vendor directory can be found at www.charlottein2012.com
