Democratic National Convention Committee Releases
Request For Proposal for 2012 DNC
Construction Manager and Event Architect
CHARLOTTE – The Democratic National Convention Committee today released a request for proposal for the 2012 Democratic National Convention construction manager and event architect. The proposal can be found at the DNCC website, www.demconvention.com.
The 2012 DNC will be held the week of Sept. 3, 2012 at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.
“We are seeking the most dynamic, diverse and innovative firms to serve as construction manager and event architect for the 2012 Democratic National Convention,” said DNCC Chief Executive Officer Steve Kerrigan. “This process is open to all firms or teams who believe they have the necessary qualifications and capacity to build a world-class convention space.”
The deadline for submission
is Sept. 30, 2011. Firms must inform the DNCC of their intent to
propose by Sept. 22. The contract, or contracts, will be awarded
by Oct. 21, 2011. Any firm is welcome to apply. More
information is available at www.demconvention.com/vendors.
The construction manager will oversee the temporary modification and then restoration of the arena following the convention. The construction manager will serve as a lead agency and will manage its subcontractors and subconsultants, and potentially the event architect. The event architect will be responsible for various architectural and design planning needs of the convention and design a world-class convention venue.
The DNCC will evaluate the proposals based on numerous criteria, including, but not limited to: experience, reliability, relationships to Charlotte, North Carolina, and the surrounding region, participation of union labor, women, minorities and persons with disabilities, and local resources to support the endeavor.
Prior to today’s publication of the RFP, the DNCC hosted an information session that was widely attended, to brief local construction companies on the RFP process and answer any general questions. In addition, on Sept. 1, the DNCC and Committee for Charlotte 2012 announced the publication of an online vendor directory, a searchable database that will be used by the DNCC and national organizations to find goods and services to meet their convention-related needs. Businesses are encouraged to register online with the vendor directory at www.charlottein2012.com.
