Reactions to the Vice
Presidential Debate
Oct. 12, 2012 10:50 a.m.
FMR. CIA
DIRECTOR HAYDEN AND FMR. SEC. CHERTOFF: BLAMING THOSE WHO PUT THEIR
LIVES ON THE LINE IS NOT THE LEADERSHIP WE NEED
Boston, MA – Former CIA
Director Michael Hayden and former Secretary of Homeland Security
Michael Chertoff made the following statement on Vice President Biden’s
comments last night on the terrorist attack in Libya:
“During
the Vice Presidential debate, we were disappointed to see Vice
President Biden blame the intelligence community for the inconsistent
and shifting response of the Obama Administration to the terrorist
attacks in Benghazi. Given what has emerged publicly about the
intelligence available before, during, and after the September 11
attack, it is clear that any failure was not on the part of the
intelligence community, but on the part of White House decision-makers
who should have listened to, and acted on, available intelligence.
Blaming those who put their lives on the line is not the kind of
leadership this country needs.”

DAN
SENOR: VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN CONTINUED THE ADMINISTRATION’S PATTERN OF
MISLEADING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ON LIBYA
Boston, MA – Romney
Campaign Senior Adviser Dan Senor made the following statement on Vice
President Biden’s comments on the terrorist attack in Libya:
“Vice
President Biden tonight continued the Administration’s pattern of
misleading the American people about events in Libya. He wrongly stated
that the Administration was not aware of requests for more security
from our diplomatic facilities in Libya. But we now know from the sworn
testimony of two U.S. security officials who were stationed in Libya
that there were repeated requests for more security in the face of
rising threats. We need leaders who will be truthful with the American
people and who are informed about vital issues of national security.
Joe Biden’s comments point to the larger failures of the Administration
to be completely transparent about the terrorist attacks in Benghazi
and the security situations leading up to the attacks.”
11:15 p.m.
JEB BUSH: PAUL RYAN CLEARLY ARTICULATED A
FUTURE WITH MORE ECONOMIC FREEDOM
Boston, MA – Former Florida
Governor Jeb Bush made the following statement on tonight’s
vice-presidential debate:
“Paul
Ryan won the debate tonight because he articulated a better future
under a Romney administration – one marked by more economic freedom, 12
million new jobs and a stronger middle class. I’m confident Americans
want to restore our freedoms, reaffirm our founding principles and
return the promise of more prosperity and more opportunity achievable
under a thriving free market economy. That’s the America we can have
with a Romney-Ryan administration.”
11:06 p.m.
SEN. KELLY AYOTTE: PAUL RYAN OFFERED
SOLUTIONS, WHILE VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN DUCKED BLAME
Boston, MA – New Hampshire
Senator Kelly Ayotte made the following statement on tonight’s
vice-presidential debate:
“Paul
Ryan offered solutions while Vice President Biden tried to duck blame.
He couldn't defend the failed Obama economy, which has buried America's
middle class and left 23 million Americans struggling for work. While
Biden delivered more misleading rhetoric, Paul Ryan told the American
people how a Romney administration would get millions of jobless
Americans back to work. And he was clear about the need to solve our
debt crisis -- not hide from it, like President Obama has. The
Romney-Ryan ticket is showing Americans that it has the right vision to
grow the economy, create jobs, and get our fiscal house in order.”
11:01 p.m.
SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: THE CHOICE THIS
NOVEMBER COULDN’T BE CLEARER
Boston, MA –Speaker of the
House John Boehner made the following statement on tonight’s
vice-presidential debate:
“Tonight,
voters heard two distinct visions for the future of our country. Vice
President Biden promised four more years of higher taxes, skyrocketing
debt, and painfully high unemployment while Congressman Ryan outlined a
plan for a real recovery that will create jobs, provide tax relief for
the middle class, and clear the cloud of debt that is dragging on our
economy. The choice for Americans in November is a big one, and
Paul
Ryan detailed a clear vision for a prosperous, thriving economy that
fosters private sector job creation and opportunity for all.”
10:50 p.m.
BETTY DOUGLAS: MITT ROMNEY AND PAUL RYAN
WILL PROTECT AND STRENGTHEN MEDICARE
Boston, MA – Betty Douglas,
Paul Ryan’s mother, made the following statement on tonight’s
vice-presidential debate:
“Tonight’s
debate showed seniors across the country that we have a very clear
choice between the current administration, which has already cut
Medicare by $716 billion to pay for Obamacare, and Mitt Romney and Paul
who will protect Medicare for retirees like me and strengthen it for my
grandchildren’s generation and generations thereafter.”
10:33 p.m.
REP. ERIC CANTOR: PAUL RYAN OUTLINED A BOLD
AGENDA FOR OUR COUNTRY’S FUTURE
Boston, MA – House Majority
Leader Eric Cantor made the following statement on tonight’s
vice-presidential debate:
“Congressman
Ryan laid out a clear path for real recovery tonight. Instead of
settling for four more years of the same – a stagnant economy, rising
taxes and debt, and more Americans trapped in government dependency –
voters can choose a path based on job creation and opportunity for all.
Congressman Ryan clearly won this debate by outlining a vision for
economic prosperity and a bold agenda for our country’s future. Voters
have a big choice in November, and their choice was made even easier
tonight.”

Virginia Romney Campaign to Hold 30 Debate
Watch Parties Statewide
ARLINGTON, Va. –
On Thursday, Romney-Ryan supporters across Virginia will gather
together to watch Congressman Paul Ryan debate Vice President Joe
Biden. Ben Romney will host the Arlington gathering and Tagg
Romney will be attending a party hosted by the College Republicans at
the University of Virginia. Additionally, Virginia GOP Victory Chair
Pete Snyder and former Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Kate
Obenshain will host a debate watch party in Stafford.
The
choice between two very different visions for our nation's future will
be on full display at the debate this Thursday: four more years of
higher federal taxes and less take-home pay in Obama’s stagnant
economy, or a chance for a real recovery with Republican pro-growth
policies that reform our tax code, foster upward mobility, and deliver
more jobs and take-home pay. After four years of the President's
failed
policies that have left Virginians with plummeting incomes and higher
costs of living, Virginia simply can't afford four more years like the
last four years.
The Romney campaign will host 30 watch parties across the Commonwealth.
