WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday, September 26th, Vicki Meyer, a retired college instructor from Florida will deliver a petition with over 215,000 signatures to the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) calling on the Commission to have non-partisan fact-checkers providing real-time review of the nationally televised presidential and vice-presidential debates.

WHO: Vicki Meyer, creator of the petition “Have Fact Checkers at the Presidential and Vice  Presidential Debates” joined by concerned citizens, MoveOn.org members.

WHAT: Petition delivery and press conference

WHEN: Wednesday, September 26th at 2:00pm EST

WHERE: Commission on Presidential Debates’ Office
1200 New Hampshire Ave., NW
Washington, DC 20036-6810

Vicki was inspired to start her petition on SignOn.org in part because of her recent experiences registering people to vote.  “People are disillusioned, I’m disillusioned; lying is destroying our democracy,” explained Vicki Meyers.  “We need to have fact checkers at the debate, so that we can restore confidence in our political process.  I have met too many people while registering people to vote, who are dropping out of the process because they feel like they are being lied to by both sides. A democracy cannot work properly if political leaders can lie to the public without fear of being challenged.”
