New Hampshire Endorsements
The GOP Republican presidential candidates had plenty of
endorsements
to chase in New Hampshire, particularly after Republicans' historic
wins
in New Hampshire in 2010. Seventeen of 19 Republican state
Senators (89.4 percent) endorsed and, according to Democracy in
Action's tally, 182 of 294 state Representatives (62.9 percent).
Former Gov. Mitt Romney did very well in endorsements, gaining support
of U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass, four of five
Executive Councilors, 11 of the 19 Republican state Senators and 73 of
the 294 Republican state Representatives.

Summary of House Endorsements
Pawlenty: Winfred O. Hutchinson, William F. Condra, Jack B. Flanagan, Robert W. Hinch.
Cain had endorsements of eight state representatives at the time he suspended his campaign: Charles J. Brosseau, Michael J. Ball, William Condra, Joseph Thomas, Jordan G. Ulery, Kevin Reichard, Sam Cataldo and Steven D. Smith. William D. Panek had also endorsed Cain but switched to Gingrich when reports of the affair aired. Following the suspension, Cataldo switched to Gingrich, Reichard to Paul. Smith said he would not make another endorsement but did announce for Santorum.
Note Dec. 9, 2011: Campaigns seem to follow a "catch and release" strategy on announcing endorsements. The campaign may have or gather a bunch of endorsements, but they trickle them out or announce them as they see fit. For example, in July 7, 2011 article Boston Globe's Shira Schoenberg cites Paul NH chairman Jim Forsythe as saying Mirski was the 21st state Rep. to endorse Paul, but at that time the campaign had announced just a handful of endorsements; not until early October did the campaign reach 20 announced endorsements. Similarly Romney put out a few releases on legislator endorsements, and then on Oct. 18, 2011 announced another 15 (+), bringing his total to 35, on Nov. 10 another 10 (+), on Dec. 8 another 10 (+) and on Jan. 2 another 15 (+) taking the total to 73. An alternative approach was "shock and awe" exemplified by the Perry campaign, which on Sept. 21, 2011 announced 27 state Rep. endorsements (+).
However, Perry lost at least four of his 27 initial endorsers. Rep. Norman Major of Plaistow, Rep. Elaine Swinford of Center Barnstead, and Rep. David Lundgren of Londonderry flipped to Romney and Rep. Gregory Sorg of Easton shifted to Gingrich. (Perry did gain four others legislators' endorsements during the course of the campaign to finish with 27; this number was hugely disproportionate to his meager primary results). There were other switches. Freshman Rep. Fred F. Leonard of Rochester was announced as Strafford County leader for the Paul campaign on Oct. 6, but in a Nov. 22 email stated, "I'm no longer endorsing Ron Paul and have not yet decided if I will be endorsing anyone for the 2012 NH primary or the general election." Reps. Sam Cataldo and William D. Panek both of Farmington were reported to have switched from Cain to Gingrich following the Nov. 28 report that Cain had had an affair. Cataldo subsequently said he was sticking with Cain during the candidate's reassessment, but did eventually back Gingrich. Rep. William Condra of Wilton ended up supporting three candidates during the course of the campaign, ending up backing Santorum after Pawlenty and the Cain withdrew.
