Speeches and StatementsParties Set the Stage  ||  Romney  |  Gingrich  ||  Republicans  |  Democrats

A total of 98 delegates were at stake in Wisconsin, Maryland and DC.  At this stage the campaign was largely seen as a two-person race between Romney and Santorum.  Gingrich signaled a retreat in late March, laying off a third of his campaign staff according to news reports, and Paul did not appear to be making a major effort in these three contests.  Most attention focused on Wisconsin, with Romney and Santorum investing significant time and resources there.  The recall election on Gov. Scott Walker, set for June 5, loomed large.  Expectations heading into Election Day were that Romney will win all three contests and he did, further solidifying his delegate lead.
