DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s
Statement on Results of Louisiana Republican Primary
Washington,
D.C. – DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following
statement tonight on the results of the Republican primary in Louisiana:
“The
topsy-turvy nature of the race for the Republican nomination continued
tonight, with Mitt Romney's say anything candidacy continuing to
prevent him from being able to close the deal. Of course, after a
week
during which Romney's strategy to try and 'Etch A Sketch' away his
extreme positions was revealed by his top advisor, it shouldn't be any
surprise that conservative Republicans are as skeptical of Mitt Romney
as critical general election independent voters are.
“Republican
voters – just like independents – have no enthusiasm for a candidate
who lacks the core convictions to lead. From attacking the
President
on high gas prices--when Romney increased a tax on gas by 400 percent
as Governor of Massachusetts, to calling for the repeal of
ObamaCare--when it was modeled after the very health reform law he
fought for and passed in Massachusetts, Mitt Romney has given voters
whiplash with his say anything approach to his candidacy.
“Try
as he might to shake away his record, Mitt Romney has a very serious
problem on his hands. Voters aren’t interested in playing games,
and
should Romney try to hit the reset button once again as a general
election nominee, there’s no question they would hold him accountable
for it.”
