Maine Democratic Party Statement on Maine GOP Convention

AUGUSTA - Maine Republicans dealt a huge blow to the Romney campaign this weekend. Despite the fact that Mitt Romney is the presumptive presidential nominee for the Republican Party, Ron Paul captured all but one of Maine's National Delegates at this weekend's state convention.

Maine Democratic Party Chairman Ben Grant released this statement:

"This weekend was a disaster for Mitt Romney. If it wasn't clear that he's a weak candidate before - it's certainly clear now. Even as the presumptive presidential nominee, Republicans in Maine and Nevada refused to unite behind him and his elitist, anti-middle class, pro-Wall Street agenda. That comes as no surprise to us. Right now, voters are looking for straightforward answers and leadership, particularly when it comes to those hurting the most as our economy recovers. That's why Democrats and Independents are rallying behind President Obama, but Republicans are unhappily stuck with Mitt Romney who thinks he's entitled to play by different rules than everyone else. He loses votes and demands a re-do. He doesn't like a question so he doesn't answer it. He doesn't want to pay taxes so he so he refuses to pay his fair share. He thinks there's one set of rules for him and another for the rest of us and even Republicans aren't buying it. Romney is their nominee, and the Maine GOP still doesn't want him."
