MDP Chair Mark Brewer Issues Statement on GOP Presidential Primary

LANSING - Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer issued the following statement on tonight's GOP Presidential Primary results:

“Tonight’s results make clear what we have seen for months – Mitt Romney is a flawed candidate who is turning off independents and unable to excite the Republican Party. With his family name, outspending his opponents at a 2-1 margin, and having won this state in 2008, Romney should have locked up this state with ease. But instead he’s limping into Super Tuesday, badly damaged and with serious doubts about his campaign.

“Like countless Americans across the nation, the more Michiganders saw of Mitt Romney, the less they liked. He barely mustered a narrow win after doubling-down on his call for Detroit to go bankrupt by opposing the auto industry, attacking union members and working families, and betting against the middle class.

“Mitt Romney has badly damaged himself for the general election in Michigan – and no amount of affection for our trees will save him come November.”
