RE: Rick Perry Did Not Qualify for Tuesday Bloomberg News
Debate
Dear Mayor Bloomberg:
I am not sure if you are aware, but the recently announced
“pre-established objective criteria” used to determine who will be in
the Bloomberg TV, Washington Post, WBIN TV, Dartmouth College Debate is
flawed. Not all eight invited participants meet your criteria as
reported in the Washington Post yesterday:
http://washingtonpostlive.com/conferences/2012-republican-presidential-debate
Candidates had to meet all four of the following criteria in order to
be invited to participate in the Republican Presidential Debate this
Tuesday, October 11, 2011:
A. Received measurable popular support in a range of
national polls.
B. Campaign reported at least half a million dollars
raised in its
FEC filing through the 2011 second quarter reporting period.
C. Is a legally qualified candidate for the
Republican nomination for President.
D. Participated in at least three nationally
televised Republican Presidential debates during the 2012 election
cycle.
Our campaign checked all eight candidates to see if each met your
criteria. Guess what?
RICK PERRY WAS NOT A CANDIDATE BY THE END OF 2nd QUARTER AND
HAS NOT FILED ANY FEC FUNDRAISING REPORTS:
Rick Perry did not join the race until August 12, 2011, 43 days after
the end of the 2nd reporting period. Rick Perry has yet to file
ANY
FEC fundraising reports for any quarter: http://images.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/fecimg/?C00500587
RICK PERRY WAS REPORTED TO BE IN DEBATE BY BLOOMBERG:
Bloomberg already reported that Rick Perry was in the debate on October
4, 2011: http://inside.bloomberg.com/blog/2011/10/candidates-announced-for-1st-gop-economic-debate.html
Mayor Bloomberg, since the debate organizers are not sticking to their
own rules, then how about letting all serious Republican candidates for
President on the stage to debate and talk about our ideas to fix the
economy?
Let in former Governor’s Gary Johnson, Buddy Roemer and me. We
all have much to add to this all important discussion.
Otherwise, under the organizers “pre-established objective criteria,”
Mr. Perry should not be allowed to debate Tuesday at Dartmouth.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this very important matter.
Best regards,
Fred Karger

Dear All:
I
am writing to inform all parties that I have attained the 2% threshold
in a national poll, which would qualify me for the October 11, 2011
Bloomberg-Washington Post Debate. On August 4, 2011 Harris
Interactive
released a study showing
me at 2%
- tied with Governor's Jon Huntsman and Tim Pawlenty and ahead of Rick
Santorum and Gary Johnson. You can view the details and the full
crosstabs for this poll HERE.
Harris
is one of the longest running and most respected names in the polling
industry. Bloomberg and Washington Post regularly report the
findings
of Harris Interactive Polls.
As the candidate who has spent
the most time in New Hampshire, leased a house in Manchester for seven
months, given 10 speeches at Dartmouth and is even a legacy and beat 18
other candidates in the St.
Anselm Straw Poll, I would hope that Bloomberg and the Washington
Post would let me in to your October 11th Debate.
I
pledge to be respectful of the process, my fellow Republican candidates
and my presence would be great for ratings. I look forward to
hearing
from you, and hope to see you in Hanover next week.
Best regards,
Fred Karger
PRESS
RELEASE from Gary
Johnson 2012
THE “GARY JOHNSON RULE”
FOR DEBATES IS ALIVE AND WELL
October 7, 2011, Santa Fe, NM
-- A senior advisor to Governor Gary Johnson’s presidential campaign
released the following statement today regarding Governor Johnson’s
exclusion from the Bloomberg/Washington Post debate next week in New
Hampshire:
Ron Nielson, senior advisor, said, “When Governor
Johnson was excluded from the NBC/Politico debate last month, it was
speculated that there was a ‘Gary Johnson Rule’ in effect to insure
that he would not be on the stage. Despite the fact that it was a
bit
suspicious that NBC and Politico came up with a 4% polling threshold –
just high enough to exclude Governor Johnson, we didn’t necessarily buy
into the ‘Rule’ theory. Then, CNN, who has used a 2% threshold,
does a
poll in August and Governor Johnson gets 2%, higher than Jon Huntsman
and Rick Santorum. What does CNN do? They stopped including
us in
their polls, obviously reducing his chances of ‘qualifying’ for their
next debate. A ‘Gary Johnson Rule’? Maybe.
“Now, we see the
criteria
for next week’s Bloomberg/Washington Post debate, and there is the
clearest ‘Gary Johnson Rule’ yet. To be included, they say a
candidate
must have participated in three debates. Gary has participated in
two. And for good measure, they included a fundraising threshold
that
we didn’t meet – as though that is relevant to anyone’s qualifications
for President.
“As the campaign progresses and it becomes more
and more complicated to exclude Gary Johnson from debates, perhaps the
national media should simplify the Gary Johnson Rule with criteria that
just require that candidates not be named Gary Johnson.” It would
save
a lot of time and effort.
“Or, maybe they should just admit that
Gary Johnson has a message that deserves to be heard in this campaign,
whether they like that message or not”.
PRESS
RELEASE
from Gary Johnson 2012
JOHNSON CAMPAIGN: NATIONAL
MEDIA SNUBS CONTINUE
October 5, 2011, Manchester, NH --
With the announcement by Bloomberg and the Washington Post of
participants in next week’s Republican presidential debate at
Dartmouth, Governor Gary Johnson’s campaign is
continuing to question the motives of the national media for excluding
the two-term New Mexico governor from not only debates, but the polls
frequently used to determine who is in their debates.
Senior Johnson
campaign advisor Ron Neilson said in a statement released today,
“Somewhere, news media executives are sitting around trying to decide
for the Republican Party who their choices for President should
be.
They decide who to include in polls, and then use those polls –
presumably, in the case of Bloomberg and the Washington Post – to
determine who is allowed on their debate stages. The result is
that
Gary Johnson, a successful two-term governor, is not heard or
seen.
“Next
week’s debate is supposedly to focus on the economy and jobs.
National
publications of all stripes have recognized that, of all the governors
running for the nomination, Gary Johnson’s record of job creation and
cutting government spending is unsurpassed. Yet, he is
excluded. That makes no sense.
“When
there are other candidates invited whose performance in the polls are
within the margin of error to be at 0% support, by what logic is Gary
Johnson not included?
“We
have not heard a word from the organizers of next week’s debate.
Like
everyone else, we simply read in the press that the list of
participants does not include Governor Johnson. That’s
unacceptable.
“Our
efforts to understand what is going on have failed. Perhaps it is
time
for actual voters to begin asking the questions and letting the
national media know that they can make their own choices – they don’t
need the folks at Bloomberg or the Washington Post to ‘screen’ the
Republican field for them. “
