Des Moines, IA– With recent confirmation of the Iowa caucuses date, The Des Moines Register has set its date for the Republican presidential candidate debate: Monday, Dec. 19. As announced in May, The Des Moines Register will partner with Iowa Public Television, PBS NEWSHOUR, Google and YouTube for this independent debate.

The debate will be held from 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. CST at Iowa Public Television, 6450 Corporate Drive, Johnston, Iowa. Voters will have the opportunity to share ideas for questions directly through the Google and YouTube platform.

Judy Woodruff, PBS NEWSHOUR senior correspondent, will moderate the debate. Woodruff has covered national politics in addition to other domestic and international news for more than three decades at PBS, NBC and CNN.

“The Des Moines Register continues its long history of hosting the presidential candidate debates and, most important, the responsibility of providing Americans with insightful coverage of the Republican presidential candidates before the Iowa caucuses,” said Rick Green, editor of The Des Moines Register.

"The upcoming caucus and presidential cycle promises to be critically important for our country. We're especially pleased that we will be teaming with several partners -- Iowa Public Television, PBS NEWSHOUR, Google and YouTube -- who will make this great Register tradition, which started in 1980, even more relevant for voters across Iowa and the nation. It's very exciting that we'll be working with Judy Woodruff, a top-notch and seasoned pro on the national political scene, as our moderator,” Green added.

The Iowa caucuses are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.
