S.C. Legislators Announce “Draft Pence” Campaign

Eleven conservative South Carolina Legislators announced today that they were encouraging U.S. Representative Mike Pence to enter the race for the Republican nomination for president.
Participating in the event were Representatives Eric Bedingfield, Kris Crawford,  Phyllis Henderson, Dwight Loftis, Wendy Nanney, Ralph Norman and Gary Smith; and Senators Lee Bright, Kevin Bryant, Ronnie Cromer and Phillip Shoopman.

“America is facing a serious crisis and we need a serious president,” said Rep. Kris Crawford, MD, one of the organizers of the event. “In order to turn our country around, we are going to have to nominate someone who has not only the conservative principles to know what needs to be done, but also the knowledge, experience and, most importantly, the courage to actually do it. We cannot afford to nominate a weak, moderate candidate as we have in the past”

In addition to the press conference, the group has started a Facebook page (SC-Drafts-Pence-for-President) and a Twitter feed (SCDraftPence). The group is working on a web page and will announce other events as the campaign progresses.

“We wanted to go ahead and get moving,” Rep. Crawford explained. “Because the first GOP presidential debate is a just a few months away, it is important that Congressman Pence know that he has a lot of supporters here in South Carolina and that he will not have to start from scratch.”

This movement has been organized by the participants is not affiliated with any other organization.
