President Obama's Immigration Accomplishments and Initiatives

- President Obama  has expressed his strong support for the DREAM Act and has fought on behalf of immigrants brought to the U.S. as children as well as victims of violence and human trafficking.

- The Presidente implemented a common-sense policy change to make our immigration system fairer and smarter.  Under the administration's guidance, immigration officials are going  to focus on deporting people who have been conviceted of crimes or who pose a security risk.  This means that immigration officials will focus less on low-priority cases like young peopl who were brought here as small children or cases involving veterans and the spouses of active-duty military personnel.

Improving Health Care for teh Hispanic Community

- By 2014, the Affordable Care Act will expand health coverage to 9 million Hispanics who currently lack coverage

- President Obama expanded the Children's Health Insurance Plan, ensuring coverage for millions of children.

Strengthening Education for the Hispanic Community

- President Obama signed into law a historic student loan reform measure to make college more affordable for students and families, and he doubled the amount spent on Pell Grants , which will provide an additional 150,000 Hispanics with the means to go to college.

President Obama's Commitment to Diversity

- President Obama appointed the first Hispanic to the Supreme Court, Justice Sonia Sotomayor.  He appointed more Hispanics to high-level positions, drawing from a wide range of Latino American communities, including Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans, Dominican Americans and Colombian Americans, among others.
