Concord, New Hampshire - Elected
officials and health care advocates came together today on the 5th
anniversary of Mitt Romney's health care plan being signed into law to
thank Romney, who just announced his presidential exploratory
committee, for providing the critical momentum necessary to get
President Obama’s vision of health reform through Congress and signed
into law.
Speakers at the 11:15 am press conference at the New
Hampshire State House included Rep. Cindy Rosenwald, a key health care
policy advocate, Rep. Rich DiPentima, former deputy health director of
the Manchester Health Department and epidemiologist, and Chairman of
the New Hampshire Democratic Party Ray Buckley. The speakers were also
joined by supporters of health care reform wearing tee-shirts that say,
"I'm a health care voter."

"Much
like those who brought their collective wisdom together to found our
country and experiment with early forms of Democracy, Mitt Romney is
nothing short of a founding father of modern health reform – a person
who has left an indelible mark on Massachusetts' health care reform as
well as the national health reform law and its major elements,
including the individual responsibility provision which is critical to
making the law work and lowering costs for all who enter the system,"
said Buckley.
Referring to Romney's announcement yesterday and
what Granite Staters can expect to see from Romney going forward Ray
Buckley continued, "The truth is Mitt Romney flips and flops faster
than a loose haddock on a New England fishing boat."
"It wasn't
until Mitt Romney had the political persistence to push the individual
responsibility provision that real health care reform was possible,"
said Rep. Cindy Rosenwald. "It’s hard to believe that it was only five
years ago that then Governor Romney stood shoulder-to-shoulder with
Senator Kennedy at the signing of RomneyCare. It was an awesome moment
to see that he and Ted Kennedy put their partisan differences aside and
turned the dream of so many into a reality."
Rep. Rich DiPentima
also spoke, thanking Romney for his "leadership" specifically with
regard to the individual responsibility provision.
The press
conference showcased an over-sized thank you card as well a birthday
cake celebrating the 5th anniversary of Romney's health care plan
becoming law.
Yesterday, Granite State supporters of health care reform also went to
Twitter to thank Mitt Romney for his efforts.

“We want to thank Mitt Romney on the 5th anniversary of health care reform passing in Massachusetts… we are so grateful to Mitt for being an advocate and inspiration to Democrats across the country”
State Senator Jack Hatch
“Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have really done more for health care reform than anyone in my generation… Governor Romney signing that bill opened up the flood gates, states now are participating in a national plan to provide health care to everybody in their state. As a Democrat we’ve been talking about this for 50 years, but never were we able to do anything substantive with health care reform… it all stemmed from the fact that we had an opening, Governor Romney provided that – he’s the only Governor that signed such a progressive type of health care.”
Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Dvorsky
“This accomplishment by Governor Romney was really groundbreaking. It was a seminal move that got us moving and allowed President Obama some room to stand on… Governor Romney needs to come here and talk to us about this… this is an important part of the national conversation.”
