Former Alabama Governor Fob James Endorses Newt Gingrich For President

Montgomery, AL - Today Former Alabama Governor Fob James endorsed Newt Gingrich for President.

Fob James was Governor of Alabama for two terms, once as a Democrat from 1979 to 1983 and another as a Republican from 1995 to 1999. Speaker Gingrich and Gov. James worked together when Gingrich was Speaker and collaborated on projects and ideas related to the 10th Amendment of the United States Constitution during their respective times in office.  In 1996 Gov. James served on the Republican Platform Committee and even then was making sure that ideas and solutions that Speaker Gingrich were proposing such as a real balanced budget and welfare reform were incoporated in the Party's Platform.

"I am proud to support and stand with Newt Gingrich for President," said James. "I am certain that Newt is the man to return our country to sound fiscal policy, real solutions for abundant American energy, and to defend religious liberty. Our nation is in desperate need of true Conservative leadership and there is no person running for President with greater Conservative achievements and realistic proposals to move our country ahead than Newt Gingrich."

Newt 2012 Alabama State Chair Senator Jabo Waggoner today said, "With Governor James joining our Newt 2012 team we are confident that we will be able to produce a win for Newt and true Conservative leadership on Tuesday." 

Newt 2012 Alabama State Coordinator Michael Ciamarra, who served as Gov. James' Policy Director, said, "Gov. James greatly admired Newt Gingrich and we had frequent discussions about the Speaker's proposals during those days. Gov. James' considers Newt him one of the nation's great leaders and under Newt's leadership in Congress, Alabama created many new jobs and prospered tremendously."
