Democrats to Hold Press Conferences Telling Mitt Romney: You Built This Record
Press Conferences to be held in OFA – DNC Tampa Counter-Convention War Room

Tampa – TODAY, Thursday August 30, Democrats will hold two press conferences in the OFA – DNC Tampa Counter-Convention War Room on Mitt Romney’s track record of failure.

At 11:00 AM Obama for America Campaign Co-Chair Senator Dick Durbin, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Former Mayor of North Adams, Massachusetts John Barrett, and Obama for America Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter will hold a press conference on Romney’s failed record as Massachusetts Governor and how Romney Economics is wrong for the middle class. As Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney promised more jobs, less debt, and smaller government but the reality was quite different.  During Romney’s tenure, Massachusetts ranked 47th out of 50th in job creation. Meanwhile, Romney outsourced state jobs overseas and increased taxes and fees by $750 million per year. Today he is making the same promises to the American people but it is clear that Romney economics didn’t work then and it won’t work now.

At 2:00 PM DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Massachusetts State Senator Karen Spilka and Sandra Fluke will hold a press conference on how Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the whole Republican Party continue to push an agenda that is dangerously wrong for women’s health. As a Party, Republicans want to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood, restrict access to birth control, and recently endorsed a Party platform that bans abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. This election, women face a choice between President Obama and his commitment to preserving women’s rights or the Romney-Ryan agenda that would set women’s health back decades.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Obama for America Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter, and Middle Class Americans Who Would Be Devastated by the Romney-Ryan Budget to Hold Press Conference
Press Conference to be held in OFA – DNC Tampa Counter-Convention War Room

Tampa – TODAY Wednesday August 29 at 11:00 AM Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Obama for America Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter, and Americans who would be impacted by the devastating Romney-Ryan Budget will hold a press conference in the OFA-DNC War Room in Tampa on how the Romney-Ryan budget is wrong for the middle class.

Everybody says Paul Ryan is a straight talker about our national budget and deficit.  But, when he addresses the Republican National Convention, there are likely some things he won’t be straight about with the American people.  He won’t be honest about how he and Mitt Romney would turn Medicare into a voucher program.   He won’t be straight about how his budget could cut Pell Grant scholarships for millions of college students, kick 200,000 kids off of Head Start each year, and raise taxes on middle class families with children by $2,000 a year  – all to pay for an additional tax cut of $250,000 for millionaires and billionaires.

The American people deserve straight talk about the Romney-Ryan budget and how it would take America back to the same policies that crashed our economy.   In fact, according to independent economists, their plans would do nothing to create jobs and could slow the recovery.

Gov. Martin O’Malley, Obama for America Senior Advisor Robert Gibbs, CarMax Founder Austin Ligon , Somerville, Massachusetts Mayor Joe Curtatone  and Former AMPAD Employee and Bain Victim Randy Johnson to Hold Press Conference on Romney Economics: Mitt Romney doesn’t build things.  He destroys them.

Press Conference to be held in OFA – DNC Tampa Counter-Convention War Room

Tampa – TOMORROW, Tuesday August 28 at 10:00 AM Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD), Obama for America Senior Advisor Robert Gibbs, CarMax Founder Austin Ligon, Somerville, Massachusetts Mayor Joe Curtatone, and Former AMPAD Employee and Bain Victim Randy Johnson will hold a press conference in the OFA-DNC War Room in Tampa on how Mitt Romney’s time in the private and public sectors was bad for middle class families and small businesses and how the policies he would pursue as president would take America backward.  They will note that in the private sector Romney didn’t build companies but loaded them with debt to extract profit for his own gain and that in the public sector he simply didn’t build anything as Massachusetts lost pace on job creation and small business startups.

Mitt Romney bankrupted companies, fired workers and outsourced jobs in the private sector, time and again putting profits over people.  In Massachusetts, Romney put tax breaks for the rich over efforts to create jobs and saw job creation and small business startups suffer as a result.  And now Romney is proposing the same failed top down approach that benefited a few but crashed our economy and devastated middle class families.  Mitt Romney doesn’t build things.  He destroys them.

DNC/OFA Counter Convention in Tampa and Beyond

Throughout the course of this week the DNC along with the Obama campaign will begin announcing details of its joint counter convention activities in Tampa, in Florida outside of Tampa and in battleground states around the country.

The hub of activity will be coordinated out of a rapid response war room just a short walk from the Republican convention in downtown Tampa and will include leading campaign and party surrogates and middle class Americans from all walks of life who have been victimized by Romney Economics.  Among other top campaign surrogates, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz will play a central role in the pushback efforts including kicking activities off in the war room this weekend.

While the RNC will focus on burnishing Romney’s biography as a so-called Mr. Fix It, the DNC/OFA will highlight how his work in the private sector and as Governor was a disaster for the middle class.  And the policies Romney is espousing on the campaign trail follow the same pattern: raising taxes on middle class families and ending Medicare as we know it while slashing taxes for himself and other millionaires and billionaires.  The activities will include daily press events in the war room and a host of products/advertising illustrating how out of step Mitt Romney and his policies are with seniors, students veterans and middle class families.

The activities will also include exposing how the Republican Party Mitt Romney is being nominated to lead is outside the mainstream on issues of importance to Americans – particularly as it relates to women, Hispanics and African Americans.  It’s a party under Romney’s leadership that has taken the most extreme positions imaginable on immigration including opposing the Dream Act; has vowed to end all abortions even in the case of rape and incest; has vowed to get rid of Planned Parenthood and would allow employers to make reproductive health care decisions for women; has vowed to repeal ObamaCare which disproportionately benefits Hispanics, African Americans and Women and a Republican Party that has systematically worked to suppress the votes of African Americans.  The DNC/OFA effort will do so by looking at the extreme views Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have espoused on the campaign trail but also by exposing the positions of the campaign’s chosen convention speakers many of whom represent the most extreme and intolerant voices of their Party.

The counter convention activities will go beyond Tampa and will include principal and surrogate events and travel throughout Florida and in key battleground states.

More to come soon…
