For Republicans, a
“Convention Without Walls”
GOP
breaking
ground to create “a nationwide discussion on America’s
future”
TAMPA, Fla. – Republicans organizing their
party’s
upcoming 2012 national convention will “use every available
communications platform and technology to create a nationwide
discussion about America’s future and Mitt Romney’s plans to strengthen
the economy and create new jobs,” William Harris, convention CEO
announced today.
“Wherever you live, whatever device you use, we want you to engage
as an active participant in this convention,” Harris said. “This
convention is about every American’s future, and everyone has a stake
in it so we created a ‘Convention without Walls’ to make this the most
open and accessible event in history.”
Organizers will break new ground by using a variety of the latest
technologies available and pioneering new efforts for presidential
nominating conventions. Here are four elements of the Convention
without Walls program:
- YouTube: The convention will soon launch a
customized YouTube page that will be filled with social conversations,
social data/infographics, photos and videos that amplify convention
messages. This page will serve as the focal point for all online
activity.
- Digital Center: The Digital Center was designed
through a partnership with Google, the convention’s Official Social
Platform and Live Stream Provider, and is located in the Google Media
Lounge at the Tampa Convention Center. This will serve as command
headquarters for monitoring, engaging and building online community to
amplify convention messages. The digital communications team will also
provide a unique peek behind the scenes and other exclusive content for
the YouTube page.
- Conversation Room: This area will serve as a
digital green room that will allow program participants to host Google
Hangouts, Tweet, post to Facebook, post photos, shoot videos and Skype
into broadcast interviews before or after they go on stage.
- Mobile App: Working with the Tampa Bay Host
Committee and AT&T, the convention’s Official Wireless Provider,
the Republican convention will feature a mobile app that enhances the
convention experience for everyone. The complete schedule of convention
events will be first made available via the app. The
app will soon be available on Android and Apple mobile devices, and can
be downloaded via iTunes.
“These exciting advances wouldn’t be possible without major
improvements to the communications infrastructure in Tampa Bay by our
Official Providers,” Harris noted. “Many of them will be
permanent,
making Tampa Bay an attractive location for future conventions,
business meetings and corporate relocation.”
