Iowa Mail (General Election) - Republican Party of Iowa

The Ames sample for the month leading up to Election Day (starting Oct. 5) contained a total of 40 mailings from the Republican Party of Iowa.   Some of these were different versions or targeted pieces; a typical resident would have received far fewer.

• 13 persuasion supporting Romney/opposing Obama
• 4   apply to vote by mail
• 7   vote early
• 1   vote by mail
• 8   vote Republican
• 7   persuasion supporting King/opposing Vilsack (4th CD)

Of particular interest are 13 pieces of persuasion mail supporting Romney/opposing Obama.  Seven of the pieces focused on the economy, including one targeting women.  Most of the economy-themed pieces had a balance of content arguing that the economy isn't working under Obama and presenting points of Romney's plan.  Three pieces addressed gun rights, claiming that the Obama administration is "working to strip Iowa gun owners of their rights," "working under the radar to advance gun control" and "has attacked our gun rights."  Three pieces targeted seniors based on the claim that "President Obama raided $716 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.1" [cites Congressional Budget Office].  In terms of format, eleven of the mailings were single-fold 11" x 5 1/2" (open to 11" x 11") and two were 8 1/2" x 11" cards. +
