Iowans Fueled with Pride is hosting a series of educational opportunities for media and the general public during the week of the Iowa Straw Poll.  The events will provide first-hand interaction with leaders in Iowa’s agriculture and renewable fuels industries.  As two of the most innovative sectors of the economy, renewable fuels and crop production have experienced great advances during the last four years.  The “hands on” events will provide up-to-the-minute information on the efficiency, productivity and energy security benefits of renewable fuels.

10:00-11:30 am     Iowa Family Farm Tour

Just a few miles off of I-35 in between Des Moines and Ames, Dave and Rhonda Birchmier own and operate their multi-generation family farm.  Get a firsthand look at what family farm looks like in 2011. Today's farmers use the latest technology to produce more food and fuel, while using less energy and protecting their environment. Walk on their soil, see their equipment and visit with them to learn about their commitment to meeting the world's growing needs.

Directions:          From I-35, take the Cambridge exit (Exit 102) and go east on Iowa Highway 210 about 6 miles towards Maxwell.  Then turn right (south) onto 80th Street (S14).  Go around 2 miles south.  Farm will be on the left (east) side of the road.

3:00-5:00 pm          FFV and Biodiesel Vehicle Ride & Drive

Just west of downtown Des Moines, come to Dahl’s Foods – Iowa’s premier grocer since 1931 – to test drive the latest flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) and biodiesel vehicles.  Learn why Dahl’s offers their customers E85 and biodiesel and how FFVs offer consumers the flexibility to beat high gasoline prices.  Test drive vehicles will include Chevy, Buick, Ford, Jeep and Mercedes Benz models.

All 2011 Iowa Straw Poll visitors and media are invited to stop by the Iowans Fueled with Pride Straw Poll site to tour the mobile education trailer and learn the latest facts on the production and use of renewable fuels.  See how renewable fuels are powering Iowa’s economy while enhancing energy security and improving our environment.

9:00am–9:00pm  America’s Farmer Mobile Experience by Monsanto



Ever wonder what it’s like to be a farmer today?  Look into the life of an American farmer and learn more about the vital role they play in the world of agriculture through the America’s Farmers Mobile Experience.  The Mobile Experience is a traveling 53-foot trailer that expands into 1,000-square feet of exhibit space that immerses visitors in the lives of America’s farm families.  The tour is designed to educate visitors on modern agriculture and the challenges farmers face to meet the demands of a rapidly increasing world population.
