Santorum, Bachmann, Cain and McCotter Join
Values Voter Bus Tour Prior to Iowa Straw Poll
WASHINGTON, D.C. - FRC Action's Faith Family Freedom Fund is on its
third day of the "Values Voter Bus Tour" that will cover 1,305 miles
with events in 22 cities. Today the Values Bus is traveling to
tonight's GOP primary debate in Ames. The tour will pass through 47 of Iowa's 99
counties before concluding at the Ames Straw
Poll this Saturday.
Presidential candidates Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain and Thad McCotter have joined the tour so far. On
Friday afternoon, Rick Santorum will speak at bus stops in Boone and Marshalltown. On Friday evening at 8:30 p.m.,
the Values Bus will arrive at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames
where it will be greeted by presidential candidate Michele Bachmann.
U.S. Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and
Louie Gohmert (R-TX) will also join with Family Research Council Action
President Tony Perkins, National Organization for Marriage President
Brian Brown, and Susan B. Anthony List's
Connie Mackey, Chairman of Family Research Council's
Faith Family Freedom Fund, made the following comments:
"As we travel across the state, we are meeting caucus-goers who
support different presidential candidates but are broadly united by
certain principles, not the least of which are the beliefs that
marriage is the union of one man and one
woman, and that innocent unborn life should be
"We are experiencing the downgrade of our economy. However, the
horrendous downgrading of our culture during the Obama years dovetails
with the economy in so many ways. The breakdown of the family
ultimately leads the government (with our taxes) to replace the intact
family. The people of Iowa get it.
"Next week, Mr. Obama will follow our bus tour with his own
'listening' tour. This is a President who not only doesn't listen, he
doesn't care about what's on the minds of those in the Midwest. Mr.
Obama's presidency is all about more government and
less freedom, which is why he refuses to come to realistic terms with
our budget crisis and why he won't listen to
Iowans who believe in balancing our budget and
paying our debts," concluded Mackey.

Family Research Council Action
President Tony Perkins
"Last November, the people of Iowa reclaimed their right to govern
themselves by removing three activist judges from power. We were
honored to play a part in that victory with our successful Judge Bus
tour that traveled the state highlighting the issue.
"The Values Bus Tour will speak to the views held by millions of
American voters who want to make sure that issues impacting the family
and the broader culture are understood and addressed by each of the
candidates. The race is clearly wide open. Values voters will be
closely watching next week's events as they determine which of the
candidates are willing to do what it takes once elected to restore
fiscal sanity, protect marriage, safeguard religious liberty and
protect the rights of the unborn," concluded Perkins.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of
the Susan B. Anthony List
, made the
"President Obama is the most pro-abortion President in United States
history. He has shown a willingness to shut down the federal government
in order to keep Planned Parenthood funded with tax payer subsidies and
even threatened individual states for exercising their Tenth Amendment
right to de-fund the organization at a state level. It is time to
replace Obama with a true pro-life leader in the White House. That
effort begins in Iowa. The Values Voter Bus Tour is designed to get the
word out to straw poll and caucus goers regarding which Presidential
candidates can be counted on as strong and vocal leaders for women and
Brian Brown, president of the National
Organization for Marriage (NOM)
made the following comments:
"President Obama has done virtually everything in his power to
undermine the institution of marriage, including refusing to defend the
bi-partisan Defense of Marriage Act signed into law by President
Clinton. NOM is committed to ensuring that the next president is a
strong and committed supporter of traditional marriage and will commit
his or her administration to vigorously defending marriage in the
courts, Congress and in the court of public opinion. We were the
largest contributor to the effort to unseat the state judges who
imposed same-sex marriage on Iowa by judicial fiat. We look forward to
playing an extremely active role in encouraging the people of Iowa,
including our tens of thousands of supporters, to make a difference in
selecting an unambiguously pro-marriage candidate in Iowa."
