Crossroads GPS Launches New Nationwide Issue Ad on Government Employee Unions

New TV spot “The System” urges President Obama to stop siding with big government union bosses and support government union reform; Crossroads GPS president calls system “a threat to democracy.”

WASHINGTON – Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS) today launched a new nationwide ad that exposes how government unions protect their pay and benefits by backing politicians who give them everything they want – at the expense of taxpayers.

The sixty second issue ad, entitled “The System,” starts Wednesday morning, March 9, 2011 and will run for one week with a $750,000 nationwide buy on CNBC, CNN and Fox News Channel. It can be viewed here.

“The debate we’re seeing in Wisconsin and around the country is not just about public employees or unions – it’s about a system where politicians and government unions have scratched each other’s backs at the expense of unsuspecting taxpayers,” said Steven Law, president of Crossroads GPS. “The result of this vicious circle of influence is bloated government budgets, unsustainable public debt, wastefully expensive personnel costs, and virtually insolvent pension plans. This isn’t just a financial problem; it’s a threat to democracy.”

The ad quotes liberal U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass. 08), President Barack Obama, and National Education Association general counsel Bob Chanin, to demonstrate that bureaucrat unions work in the interest of unions, not the general public, by helping elect public officials that negotiate favorable contracts for them.

Law continued: “President Obama owns this issue because he decided to appoint himself as referee and because he is part of the system: getting massive political support from unions and then giving them what they want.”

Crossroads GPS is a policy and grassroots advocacy organization that is committed to educating, equipping and mobilizing millions of American citizens to take action on the critical economic and legislative issues that will shape our nation’s future in the years ahead.
