Crossroads GPS Launches New TV Issue Ad Focused on “Worst Economic Recovery America Has Ever Had”

New TV ad focuses on the failure of President Obama’s stimulus plan, and what it takes to get the economy moving again.

WASHINGTON – Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS) today launched a new TV issue ad in nine states focused on the failed economic policies of President Barack Obama. The ad quotes CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley calling Obama’s recovery “the worst economic recovery America has ever had.”

The ad starts today and will run on network TV stations in Florida, Iowa, Colorado, North Carolina, Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia for approximately 10 days in an $11 million buy. The spot can be viewed here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkWJrf_x2rA

The ad is the last spot in a $25 million initiative launched in early July to frame the issue debate on the economy, jobs and taxes, and promote the Crossroads GPS policy platform, the New Majority Agenda.

“We are witnessing the worst economic recovery in American history, because of the failed economic policies of President Barack Obama,” said Crossroads GPS communications director Jonathan Collegio. “President Obama’s failed solution to the economic downturn was to spend more through a massive stimulus, and now he wants to raise taxes. Real economic recovery starts with helping the private sector grow, as we present in the Crossroads GPS New Majority Agenda.”

When selling the economic stimulus plan in early 2009, Obama and his advisors estimated that it would bring unemployment down to less than 6% by this point in 2012. However, President Obama has overseen an economy with growth that measured an anemic 1.5% for the most recent quarter, and the unemployment rate hovering above 8% for more than 40 consecutive months.

Crossroads GPS is a policy and grassroots advocacy organization that is committed to educating, equipping and mobilizing millions of American citizens to take action on the critical economic and legislative issues that will shape our nation’s future in the years ahead.

Response from the DNC...

Karl Rove’s newest ad ignores the President’s record, and Rove should know that better than anyone – over the last three years of the current recovery, the economy created 2.2 million more private sector jobs than during the Bush recovery. In fact, under President Obama’s leadership, the economy has gone from losing 750,000 jobs a month, to adding 4.4 million private sector jobs over the last 28 months. And the President has already signed into law $2 trillion in deficit reduction while laying out a balanced plan to reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion over the next decade. Mitt Romney wants to take us back to the same failed policies that caused the recession, exploded our deficits, and punished the middle class in the first place—massive tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and letting Wall Street write its own rules. Independent economists agree his plan would do nothing to create jobs now and could drive us back into recession.
