National Popular Vote Launches Ads Targeting Governor Perry in Iowa
Urges Texas Governor to Respect Voters and Each State's Right to Award Electors

DES MOINES, Iowa (10/13/2011) -- National Popular Vote Initiative announced a state wide advertising buy in Iowa today encouraging Texas Governor Rick Perry to rethink his position on the state-based plan to guarantee the presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all fifty states. The television ads are running in every television market in Iowa and are supported with print advertising in the Des Moines Register and Cedar Rapids Gazette.

National Popular Vote Initiative released the following statement from Tom Golisano, its National Spokesperson, from a press conference in Des Moines.

"I encourage Governor Perry to reconsider his position on the National Popular Vote Initiative. The plan respects the state power to award Electors and gives 75-percent of the American people what they want - a permanent voice in electing the President of the United States. I'm hard pressed to understand why Governor Perry would defend a system that encourages the President of the United States to ignore 200 million Americans in fly-over states and allows second place candidates to win elections. We are prepared to hold opponents of this plan accountable to the voters.

"Mr. Perry should join me and thousands of Republican, Democrat and Independent legislators across the country in our effort to enact constitutional, common sense reform. We should work together to guarantee the presidency to the candidate who wins the most popular votes in all fifty states. National Popular Vote is the only way to make every vote matter, in every state and every presidential election."
