Bloomberg Television Unveils Political Convention Coverage

New York — Starting on Monday, August 27th, Bloomberg Television will broadcast live from the Bloomberg Link convention headquarters at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.

The network will feature an all-star line-up of reporters, analysts and contributors at the conventions to closely examine the key economic issues driving the race for the White House. The team will include Bloomberg Washington editor Al Hunt, Bloomberg Television political analyst Matthew Dowd, Bloomberg View columnist Margaret Carlson, White House correspondents Hans Nichols and Julianna Goldman, along with chief Washington correspondent Peter Cook and Washington correspondent Meghan Hughes. “Street Smart” anchor Trish Regan will host Bloomberg Television’s primetime specials, focusing on “The Economy Election.”

Regan will anchor “Street Smart” each afternoon from the conventions from 3-5 PM/ET. In addition, Charlie Rose will host his nightly program for PBS and Bloomberg Television from the Bloomberg Link.

NEW YORK — Bloomberg LP announced today that it will convene business, political and thought leaders at the Republican and Democratic national conventions for interviews, panel discussions and policy briefings focused on the number one issue driving the U.S. elections: the economy.

Near the convention arenas in Tampa and Charlotte, Bloomberg is creating a cutting-edge convention headquarters called the Bloomberg Link that will incorporate the modern architectural and design elements from the company’s signature global offices including everything from open floor plans and stocked pantries to virtual fish tanks.

With its partners, Bloomberg will bring together CEOs, Members of Congress, Governors, government officials and entrepreneurs for more than 40 panels and presentations at the Bloomberg Link to discuss job creation, innovation and economic development.

Briefings by Bloomberg Government analysts will provide insight into the business implications of major policy issues being debated at the presidential level, including healthcare, campaign finance, financial regulation, taxation and government spending.

At the same time, Bloomberg is sending an unprecedented number of editors, reporters and analysts to cover the conventions in Tampa and Charlotte, leveraging Bloomberg’s expertise in business and financial news, data and analysis. With Bloomberg News coverage being led by Washington Editor Al Hunt under the direction of Editor-in- Chief Matthew Winkler, more than 90 reporters, editors, analysts and producers from across Bloomberg LP will be onsite at the conventions, double the number sent to Denver and Minneapolis in 2008.

A Convention Daily: Bloomberg Insider Bloomberg will publish a daily convention magazine, “Bloomberg Insider,” highlighting the best news and analysis from Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Businessweek, Bloomberg BNA, Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg Government and Bloomberg View.  “Bloomberg Insider” will be distributed free at both conventions, in Washington, DC and digitally through Bloomberg.com and its subscription based platforms including Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg Government and the Bloomberg Professional service.

Bloomberg’s Growth in Washington: The increased presence at the 2012 conventions follows a period of extraordinary growth for Bloomberg in the Washington, DC area.  In early 2011, Bloomberg launched Bloomberg Government, a web-based subscription service covering the impact of government actions on business.  Last fall, Bloomberg acquired BNA, a leading source for legal, regulatory, and business information which is now being integrated into the Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg Government and Bloomberg Professional service platforms.

Bloomberg to Publish Convention Dailies

Tampa Bay and Charlotte Business Journals Will Be Local Partners

Bloomberg Insider Will Showcase Work of Bloomberg News, Government, View and Other Units at U.S. Political Conventions

NEW YORK — Bloomberg LP announced today that it will publish Bloomberg Insider, a daily magazine to be distributed at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Bloomberg Insider will expand on daily convention coverage, providing a forward look at the 2012 U.S. elections while focusing on the important business and economic issues that define the candidates and their parties.

The decision to produce daily magazines for the conventions follows a period of unprecedented growth for Bloomberg in the Washington area. The news and information provider launched Bloomberg Government, a web-based subscription service covering the impact of government actions on business, in early 2011. Last fall Bloomberg acquired BNA, a leading source for legal, regulatory, and business information. Including the Bloomberg News Washington bureau, Bloomberg now has more than 1,600 employees based in the Washington, DC area including almost 300 editorial employees and analysts in its Washington offices.

“Bloomberg Insider will include in-depth analysis by Bloomberg Government, reporting, interviews and features from Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Television and Bloomberg Businessweek, executive briefings from Bloomberg BNA and opinion pieces by Bloomberg View columnists,” said Norman Pearlstine, Chief Content Officer of Bloomberg L.P. and Co-Chairman of Bloomberg Government. Bloomberg’s reporting at the conventions will be led by Politics Editor Al Hunt.

Bloomberg has joined forces with American City Business Journals to feature local content from the Charlotte Business Journal and Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Bloomberg will distribute 15,000 copies per day at each convention and in Washington, DC, reaching political leaders, business executives and the media covering the 2012 election. A digital version of Bloomberg Insider will also be featured on Bloomberg.com, Businessweek.com, through Bloomberg’s mobile platforms, and be available to subscribers of Bloomberg Government and the more than 310,000 subscribers to the Bloomberg Professional service. A link to Bloomberg Insider will also be emailed daily to the 5,500 subscribers of Bloomberg’s Morning Alert newsletter.

Bloomberg Insider will include a limited number of advertisements in each issue to provide advertisers with a larger share of voice within the pages of the daily publication.
