IPTV and The Des Moines Register to Present "Conversations with the Candidates"

Des Moines, IA– The Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Television will conduct conversations with presidential candidates the weeks of Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.

The Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Television “Conversations with the Candidates” will be held at Iowa Public Television, 6450 Corporate Drive, Johnston, Iowa.

Kathie Obradovich, political columnist of The Des Moines Register will host the candidates. Obradovich has directed coverage of Iowa’s first-in-the nation presidential caucuses, the Iowa Statehouse and Congress. Previously, she was the lead editor of the award-winning Iowa Poll, developing questionnaires and coordinating the reporting of results. Obradovich is an Iowa native with strong roots in the state.

Each conversation will be 30 minutes and will air on Iowa Public Television each week night at 6:30 p.m. during the weeks of Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. Candidate commitments include Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum. The conversations will also be live-streamed on DesMoinesRegister.com and iptv.org.

To participate in the conversation, the candidate:

1. Must have formally announced his or her candidacy and filed all necessary paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission.

2. Must have received an average of at least 2 percent support in national polls of likely Republican voters conducted from Oct. 1, 2011-Nov. 10, 2011. The polls must have been conducted by the following, solely or in partnership: ABC, AP, Bloomberg, CBS, CNN, FOX, Gallup, NBC, New York Times, Pew, Reuters, USA Today, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.

“We are just weeks away from the Iowa Republican caucuses and Iowans continue to remain undecided about the candidate they will support on Jan. 3. We believe Iowans want substantive conversations about the issues that matter most,” said Laura Hollingsworth, President and Publisher of The Des Moines Register.
