PRESS RELEASE from National Journal

National Journal and The Atlantic Update Slate of Events for GOP, Dem Conventions

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 16, 2012 -- National Journal LIVE and Atlantic LIVE will team up for a slate of thought-provoking events at the Republican and Democratic conventions in Tampa and Charlotte. From its unique and centrally located headquarters in each convention city, National Journal and The Atlantic will provide a panoramic perspective on the world of American policy and politics during this pivotal election year.

Headquarters
TAMPA - Carne Chophouse @ El Centro Espanol (Ybor City)
CarneChopHouse.com
Ybor City is a historic neighborhood in Tampa founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers. The neighborhood has been designated as a National Historic Landmark District, and 7th Avenue, the main commercial thoroughfare in Ybor City, was recognized as one of the “10 Great Streets in America” by the American Planning Association. A central aspect of life in Ybor City were mutual aid societies built and sustained by citizens from each of the district’s different ethnic groups. The first was the El Centro Espanol, located in the heart of the district and the setting for Carne, a highly-anticipated new Tampa restaurant. The venue is 1.8 miles from the St. Pete Times Forum.

CHARLOTTE - McColl Center for Visual Art
McCollCenter.org
McColl Center for Visual Art is a nationally acclaimed contemporary art center. Located in Uptown Charlotte, McColl Center is housed in a historic gothic-revival structure that formerly served as a Presbyterian church. Built in 1926, the church closed in the mid-1950s, fell into disrepair and was reduced to a shell by a 1984 fire. Offering a compelling symbol of the renaissance of Center City, the property was acquired by Bank of America in 1995 for the sole purpose of establishing an urban artists’ community. McColl Center is .6 miles from Time Warner Cable Arena. It is approximately a 3 minute drive or a 10 minute walk to the security perimeter.
