Democratic National Convention
ARLINGTON, VA -- POLITICO and The Charlotte Observer announced today
they will jointly produce a special daily newspaper for the 2012
Democratic National Convention taking place in Charlotte, N.C., during
the first week of September.
This special edition of the Observer will be co-branded and feature
unmatched reporting from both organizations’ teams of journalists on
the ground. It will be distributed at key locations and convention
venues around the convention city. Convention coverage will also appear
in copies of the Observer distributed to all readers.
“We are excited to partner with such a well-respected newspaper for one
of the most pivotal events of the 2012 election cycle,” said POLITICO
Editor-in-Chief John F. Harris. “With POLITICO’s notable team of
national political reporters and the Observer’s dominance of state and
local reporting, our coverage will be unrivaled.”
Ann Caulkins, publisher of the Observer said, “This is one of the
biggest events in Charlotte history and the partnership with POLITICO
helps us to give those coming to the city for the convention a great
edition of the paper every day. We’re excited about all the
possibilities.”
Modeled after POLITICO’s innovative convention partnerships with The
Denver Post and the St. Paul Pioneer Press during the 2008 election
cycle, this collaboration will also include a series of newsmaker
events co-hosted by POLITICO and the Observer during the week of the
