How the New Healthcare Law Helps You and Your Family

Health Care You Can Always Rely On

President Obama believes that quality, affordable health insurance you can rely on is at the heart of middle class security.  The new health care law is already helping millions of Americans by making sure that insurance companies can't take advantage of them.  Because of the health care law, people who work hard and pay their premiums will have the security that comes with good health care.

Better Benefits for Seniors

America's new health care law strengthens and protects the Medicare you've earned, and gives you important new benefits, including:

+ Medicare covers a free annual wellness vist for you to sit down with your doctor.

+ Medicare now covers many preventive health service such as mammograms and bone mass measurements at no cost to you.

+ If you fall into the Medicare "doughnut hole", you could save hundreds of dollars on prescription drugs.

Preventive Care Benefits for Women

Insurance companies are now required to provide you with preventive care, at no cost to you, including:

+ Mammograms
+ Pap Smears
+ Flu Shots

And soon, it will be against the law for insurance companies to discriminate against women by charging them more than men for the same coverage.

Coverage for Young Americans

Now young Americans can stay covered under their parents' health insurance up to age 26.  Since the law took effect, 2.5 million more young adults—the group most likely to be uninsured—have insurance.

Already, young Americans with insurance are benefitting from preventive care like immunizations and cancer screenings with no copays, and in two years, they'll have the comfort of knowing insurance companies can't refuse to cover them due to "pre-exisiting conditions" such as asthma or diabetes.

How the New Healthcare Law is Helping Iowans Like You

+ In 2011, 42,000 Iowans with Medicare saved approximately $620 per person on prescription drugs, thanks to cost savings in the new health care law.

+ 18,000 young Iowans just entering the workforce now have health coverage because the health care law lets them stay on their parents coverage until the age of 26.

+ All 2 million Iowans with private insurance have the security of knowing their insurance will cover them when they need it the most; insurers are no longer allowed to place lifetime caps on or cancel Iowans' coverage when they get sick.
