Here's a look at a few of the steps President Obama has taken to make sure the next generation of Americans take on a healthy economy and a country where everyone has a fair shot at success.

The Accomplishments

ECONOMY
- Helped get our economy back on track, creating nearly 4 million private sector jobs as of February 2012

- Signed the Credit CARD Act into law, protecting young people from abuse by credit card companies

- Reformed Wall Street to make sure banks and financial institutions are held accountable and taxpayers never need to bail out big banks again
 
- Helped put first-time home ownership within reach for millions of Americans with the first-time homebuyers' tax credit


EDUCATION

- Made college more affordable by doubling funding for Pell Grants, increasing the number of recIpients from 6 million students in 2008 to 9 million students today

- Invested $2 billion in community colleges


NATIONAL SECURITY
. Ended the war In Iraq

- Brought Osama bin Laden to justice


ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
- Set new fuel efficiency standards that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and double vehicles' fuel economy to 54.5 mpg by 2025

- Made record investments in the clean and alternative energy technologies of the future. Production of renewable and alternative energy is on track to double in 2012, creating hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs

 
EQUAL RIGHTS
- Ended "Don't Ask, Dont Tell" so Americans can serve the country they love without hiding who they are

- Signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act to ensure all Americans can get equal pay for equal work-regardless of age or gender


HEALTH CARE
- Signed the Affordable Care Act into law, allowing young adults to stay on their parents' insurance plan until age 26. Already, more than 2.5 million young Americans have gained coverage as a result

- Is ensuring insurance companies can't deny young Amencans health coverage because they have preexisting conditions such as diabetes or asthma
