ALABAMA - JIM SPEARMAN

Started working at the party in Feb. 2005.  In 2004 he was Alabama political director for Wesley Clark and then for John Kerry.  He served as the vice chair for county affairs for the Alabama Democratic Party for four years, and served as chairman of the Lamar County Democratic Executive Committee for 17 years.  Graduate of Auburn University, 1983.


ALASKA - DEBORAH E. WILLIAMS

(started June 1, 2009)  Came to the party from Alaska Conservation Solutions, a group which seeks "to draw attention to the pervasive consequences of climate change in Alaska, and also to pursue solutions to the problem;" she founded the group in 2005.  Executive director of the Alaska Conservation Foundation for over six years.  Special Assistant to the Secretary of Interior (Bruce Babbitt) for Alaska.  Executive director of the Alaska Consumer Advocacy Program and of the Alaska Lung Association, while serving on many boards and commissions, 1981-94.  Represented the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska.  Graduate of Harvard Law School, 1978.  B.A. from Pomona College with a concentration in biology and economics.


ARIZONA - LUIS HEREDIA

(announced May 27, 2009)  Came to the party from position as public affairs director for Arizona and New Mexico at Union Pacific Railroad.   Field representative for Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, 2003-07.  Worked as a director of college services for Arizona Western College, and as a neighborhood planner for the City of Yuma.  Elected at the age of 24 to the Somerton Elementary School District Governing Board in Yuma County in 2000, and served as Board President from 2005-08.  M.P.A. from Indiana University.  B.A. in history from Arizona State University.  A native Arizonan, Heredia was raised in Somerton.


ARKANSAS - MARIAH HATTA

(July 2008)  Served as chief operating officer of the party from Jan.-June 2008.  Director of development for Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoman, 2007.  Director of scheduling and advance for Mike Beebe for Governor and his transition, 2006.  Executive director of Little Rock Sister Cities Commission, 2005-06.  Consultant to the Clinton Foundation, including deputy director of the grand opening, 2004-05.  A scheduler for Gen. Wes Clark's presidential campaign, 2003-04.  In 2000 she managed finance events for the DNC across the country with Vice President Gore, Senator and Mrs. Lieberman, and President Clinton.  Deputy director of scheduling and advance at the U.S. Treasury, 1997-2000.  Did scheduling and advance on Clinton-Gore '96.  Press officer for U.S. AID, 1993-96.  Worked in the communications department as satellite media coordinator on Clinton-Gore '92.  B..A. in politics from Oberlin College, 1993.


CALIFORNIA - SHAWNDA WESTLY

(May 2009)  Principal of Shawnda Westly Consulting starting in 2005; clients included John Burton’s race for CDP Chair, two months as a senior advisor to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, the Consumer Attorneys of California, Treasurer Bill Lockyer, No on the Arena Tax, No on 75, and many union funded independent expenditure campaigns..  Political director of California Professional Firefighters for six years.  Raised in Orange County.


COLORADO - JENNIE PEEK-DUNSTONE

(Jan. 1, 2010)  Peek-Dunstone is a native Coloradan, and grew up in Greeley, CO.  Jennie was a Division I college golfer and Team Captain at the University of Denver where she earned her B.A. in political science and public policy. She grew up in Democratic politics and started her political career in the 2004 New Hampshire Democratic Primary for John Edwards.  Jennie then returned to Colorado to successfully manage the top targeted State Legislative race in 2006.  After working in the State Senate press office, Jennie became the executive director of the Democratic Senate Campaign Fund, helping State Senate Democrats expand their majority. Jennie is married to Adam Dunstone. They live in Evergreen, CO with their dog, Kona.


CONNECTICUT - ALLISON DODGE

(Feb. 2010)  Outreach coordinator to Rep. Rosa DeLauro through Jan. 2010; worked for DeLauro for over nine years starting as a caseworker.


DELAWARE - JOSH SCHOENBERG

(April 2009)  Jan.-April 2009 served as policy director on Markell for Governor.  J.D. from University of Baltimore School of Law, 2008; B.A. in political science from The George Washington University, 2002.


DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA - DAVID MEADOWS

David Meadows has been the Executive Director of the DC Democratic Party since April 2009, prior to that he worked for the Democratic National Committee’s State Partnership Program, where he served as the DC Party’s Communications Director during the 2008 Presidential election season. 

David has a history of activism in the local and national political arenas, working and consulting on numerous state and federal campaigns for the past 16 years. In 1995 he served on the planning committee that helped form the National Stonewall Democrats. In 1999 he was a founding National Board member of Pride at Work, AFL-CIO.  In 2000-2002, he was elected President of the Ward 6 Democrats of Washington, DC and in 2004-2005, he was elected President of the Gertrude Stein Democrats, where he coordinated DC’s outreach to PA for the John Kerry campaign. For 8 years, David was the Special Events Director at the National Democratic Club, where he coordinated over 3,000 fundraisers for Members of Congress.  A native of Maryland, David attended the College of Southern Maryland and currently owns a home on Capitol Hill.


FLORIDA - SCOTT ARCENEAUX

(announced July 20, 2009)  Worked on Creigh Deeds' successful primary campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Virginia, June 2009.  National political director on Sen. Chris Dodd's presidential campaign, 2007-Jan. 2008.  In the 2006 cycle Arceneaux served as campaign manager on Doug Duncan's bid for Maryland Governor (starting in May 2005 through June 2006), then took similar roles for Peter Franchot's campaign for Maryland Comptroller and Judy Feder's run for Congress in Virginia's 10th District (starting in Aug. 2006).  Ran Rep. Chris John's U.S. Senate bid in Louisiana in 2004.  Executive director of the Louisiana Democratic Party, 2001-04, where he directed efforts for Mary Landrieu's 2002 Senate re-election and Kathleen Blanco's 2003 gubernatorial campaign.   Litigation associate at Stone, Pigman, Walther, Wittman and Hutchinson law firm.  Law clerk.  Law degree from Tulane Law School, 1995; undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University.


GEORGIA - MATT WEYANDT

(from June 2007)  Finance director and deputy campaign manager on Jim Martin's campaign for Lieutenant Governor in 2006.  Regional director with Grassroots Campaigns, Inc.in California, training and managing organizers and canvassers for the DNC's 2004 Presidential Grassroots Fundraising Program.  Worked on the finance staff for Shirley Franklin's first campaign  for Atlanta Mayor in 2001.  B.A. from Emory University, 2001.  Graduate of the Atlanta public schools.  Native Georgian.


HAWAI'I - DEBI HARTMANN

Faculty at BYU-Hawaii from 1995-2005 and adjunct professor through 2009.  In the mid-1990s Hartmann co-chaired Hawaii’s Future Today, which opposed gay marriage.  Served on the Hawaii State Board of Education, 1988-94, the last two years as chairman.  Principal of the Kahuku LDS Seminary.  Master's degree from the University of Hawaii-Manoa; bachelor's degree in political science from BYU-Hawaii. 


IDAHO - JIM HANSEN

(April 2008)  Founded and served as executive director of United Vision for Idaho for 13 years, 1995-April 2008.  Acting director of the Office of Conflict Management Services at Boise State University, 1992-94.  Elected to the Idaho Legislature in 1988 and served three terms, retiring in 1994.  Practiced law at Givens, McDevitt, Pursley, Webb & Buser from 1986-91.  J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law, 1985; B.A. in history from the College of William and Mary, 1982.  (Hansen's father represented Idaho's 2nd District in the U.S. Congress from 1968-74).


ILLINOIS - TIM MAPES

Chief of staff to Chairman Madigan since late 1992.  Previously special assistant to Madigan, has served on Madigan's research and issues staff since 1977.  Graduate of Western Illinois University.


INDIANA - JENNY HILL WEISER

(from March 2007)  Previously served as the party's finance director.  Director of communications and special events for the Damien Center.  Residence director for former First Lady Maggie Kernan.  Hill Weiser has worked in financial and political roles on various statewide and national campaigns and served on the planning committee for the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.  Graduate of Indiana University.


IOWA - NORM STERZENBACH

(announced Feb. 6, 2009)  Political director and caucus director for the IDP during the 2008 cycle.  Deputy campaign manager for Chet Culver's successful 2006 gubernatorial campaign, after running Patty Judge's campaign.  In 2004 he served as caucus director for the American Association of Retired People (AARP).  In 1999-2000 he served as the eastern Iowa field director on Bill Bradley’s campaign.  Native of Cedar Rapids.


KANSAS - KENNY JOHNSTON

(Dec. 2008)  Started at the party as technology director.  Deputy communications director on Rep. Dennis Moore’s 2006 re-election campaign.  B.S.E. in engineering physics, computer engineering from University of Kansas, 2006.

LOUISIANA - RENEE LAPEYROLERIE

(announced July 12, 2010)  Political director on Sen. Mary Landrieu’s successful 2008 re-election campaign.  Spokesperson for Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Marlin Gusman.  Louisiana press secretary for Kerry-Edwards.  Worked on the Kathleen Blanco’s successful 2003 campaign for Governor and Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s campaign for Lt. MAINE - MARY ERIN-CASALE

(announced March 2, 2010)  Most recently a regional field director for the Maine Democratic Party since Aug. 2009.  A media director at a consulting firm in Washington DC.  Worked on Chellie Pingree's US Senate race in 2002.  2003 graduate of Simmons College in Boston.  Portland native.  (Arden Manning has moved over to direct the coordinated campaign).


MARYLAND - TRAVIS TAZELAAR

(July 2009; had been interim executive director following departure of Quincey Gamble in May 2009)  Political director for the party; in 2008 served as coodinated campaign director.  Managed Baltimore City Councilman Edward L. Reisinger's re-election campaign in 2007.  In 2006 worked for Mayor Martin O’Malley's gubernatorial campaign and Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin's U.S. Senate campaign.  Served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years.  Aquasco native.


MASSACHUSETTS - STACEY MONAHAN

(appointed April 2007)  Statewide labor coordinator on Deval Patrick’s campaign for Governor and a staffer during the transition period.  District director to U.S. Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, 2001-06.  Candidate in the March 2005 special election primary for the 12th Suffolk House District seat.  Graduate of Boston College with a degree in history, concentrating in women's studies and black studies.

MINNESOTA - ANDY O'LEARY

(started in Sept. 2005)  Prior to joining the party in Sept. 2005, O'Leary ran the voter contact operation for Scott Stringer’s successful campaign for Manhattan Bureau President.  National field director for 21st Century Democrats in the 2004 cycle.  Prior to 2004, he served various roles in the Indiana Democratic Party including intern, regional field director, deputy finance director and political director.  O'leary grew up in the Navy and now lives in Lowertown in Downtown St. Paul.


MISSISSIPPI - SAM HALL

NEBRASKA - JIM ROGERS

NEVADA - TRAVIS BROCK

(announced March 29, 2007)  National field director Tom Vilsack for President.  Political director for the Iowa Democratic Party.  In Fall 2004 Brock served as state director of the Kerry-Edwards '04 Kentucky campaign (he started Aug. 1, 2004 and the campaign stayed there for about 6 weeks); he then returned to Iowa, where he served as Johnson County GOTV director for the coordinated campaign.  Brock's earlier experience includes Midwest political director at the DNC, deputy communications director for Vilsack/Pederson 2002, an organizer for the AFSCME Florida Political Organizing Project, field director for the 2000 Wisconsin Democratic Coordinated Campaign, field staff for Gore 2000, and field staff for the1998 Iowa Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign.  B.A. in communications from University of Wisconsin at Madison, 1993.

NEW YORK - CHARLIE KING

(announced April 13, 2010)  In April 2009 King and Frank Hoare formed War Room Consulting.  Acting director of Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network.  Candidate for Democratic nomination for Attorney General of New York in 2006, finished distant fourth.  Running mate on Andrew Cuomo's unsuccessful campaign for the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial nomination.  Regional director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for New York and New Jersey, 1999-2001.  Candidate for lieutenant governor in 1998, finishing second to Brighton Town Supervisor Sandra Frankel.  J.D. from New York University, 1987.  Undergraduate degree from Brown University, 1981.


NORTH CAROLINA - ANDREW WHALEN

(late April 2009)  Came to the party from position as communications director to Rep. Heath Shuler. Worked for Shuler starting in Feb. 2006; deputy campaign manager and communications director on Shuler's 2006 campaign; communications director to Shuler in the U.S. House; managed Shuler's 2008 campaign.  Worked on a couple of delegate campaigns.  Communications director on Jon Jennings for Congress in Indiana, 2003-04.  Denison University, 2000-03.


NORTH DAKOTA - JOE ARONSON

(August 2009)  A regional field director (7th CD) for the Minnesota DFL in 2008, then worked on Al Franken's recount operation.  Legislative assistant in the Minnesota House of Representatives, 2007-08; field organizer for the DFL House Caucus.  B.A. in political science from St. John's University, 2006.  Born in Minneapolis.

OHIO - DOUG KELLY

(2007)  Prior to joining the ODP, Kelly served director of political affairs for the Mario Morino Family of Cleveland and special advisor at Venture Philanthropy Partners, June 2005-2007.  Previously Kelly spent 10 years at the DNC in Washington, DC including as technology director starting in 2001 and research director during the Clinton years.  Director of tax analysis at Citizens for Tax Justice (CTJ).  He has authored numerous publications and studies, and provided the research for Paul Begala's 2000 book, Is Our Children Learning?  Bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University, 1987.  Native of Adrian, Michigan.

(April 2007)  Previously deputy legislative director to Gov. TENNESSEE - JENNIFER BUCK WALLACE, director of operations

(annouced May 6, 2009)  Field director on Obama's Tennessee primary campaign and key role in his general election effort in the state.  Producer/writer at Country Music Television, 2001-07.  J.D. from University of Tennessee College of Law, 2000.  Undergraduate degree in political science from Maryville College, 1997.  Native of East Tennessee.

TEXAS - RUBEN HERNANDEZ

(Oct. 1, 2005)  A deputy regional political director for the Service Employees International Union.  In 1999, Hernandez moved to Washington where he worked as campaign communications specialist for the national AFL-CIO, and political director for Grassroots Democrats.  Worked for Rep. Nick Lampson (TX) and Rep. Martin Frost (TX); also worked as a regional field organizer for the DCCC where he helped coordinate the Dallas Co. coordinated effort.  Field and convention staff for the Texas Democratic Party in 1996.


UTAH - TODD TAYLOR

(May 2005)  Taylor also held the executive director position held from 1992 until the end of 2003.  At the time, he was the longest continuously serving Democratic State Party Executive Director in the nation.  Taylor has now served six State Party Chairs including Peter Billings, Dave Jones, Mike Zuhl, Meg Holbrook, Donald Dunn and Wayne Holland, and has served as the president of the Association of State Democratic Executive Directors.  He has served in other party positions including as chairman of his county party, political director for the State Party, arrangements chair for the Utah delegation to four national party conventions.  He was the campaign manager for J. Dell Holbrook for Davis County Commission in 1990. Mr. Holbrook was the first Democrat to win a seat on the Davis County Commission in thirty-eight years. Taylor is also a chiropractic physician who became involved in politics through his activities with the Utah Chiropractic Association. He served as President of that association in 1993 and was instrumental in merging the two trade associations that then represented the chiropractic profession in the State of Utah.

VERMONT - ROBERT DEMPSEY

(May 2009)  Midwest candidate services director at the DCCC, June 2007-Dec. 2008.  Political director for Ohio Senate Democrats, 2005-07.  Regional representative for Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH), Dec. 2002-June 2005, also served as her campaign manager in Fall 2004.  Field director on Jacobs for Congress, Fall 2002.  Regional director for the Pennsylvania House Democratic Campaign Committee.  Campaign manager on Kalamazoo Against Discrimination, Fall 2001.  Legislative assistant in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.  Campaign manager on Mark Chilutti for PA State Representative, 2000.  State University of New York at Buffalo, 1999.

VIRGINIA - DAVE MILLS

(announced March 8, 2010)  Mills had been serving as the party's finance director.  Finance director on Brian Moran's 2009 campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, then worked on Creigh Deeds' campaign. Western regional finance director for Tim Kaine's 2005 campaign for governor; then served on the Kaine Inaugural Committee. Worked to pass Mark Warner's 2004 historic investment in Virginia schools. Mills has also managed a campaign for Congress in Charlottesville and a race for House of Delegates in Hampton Roads.


WASHINGTON - JAXON RAVENS

(since 2005)  Has been working for the Washington State Democrats since 2004 when he managed the caucus cycle.  Executive director for the King County Democrats for a couple of years around 2000.  President of the Washington State Young Democrats, 2000-01. Spent the 1990s traveling overseas.  Bachelors degree in politics and economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an M.B.A. in international management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.  Grew up in Missoula, MT.

WEST VIRGINIA - DEREK SCARBRO

(announced Jan. 29, 2009)  Started at the party as a field organizer in Aug. 2003, served as field director during the 2006 cycle,  as deputy executive director during the 2008 cycle and most recently oversaw the party's finances.  Scarbro has also served as State President for the Young Democrats.  Graduate of Marshall University.  Graduate of St. Albans High School.  Resides in Huntington.


WISCONSIN - MAGGIE BRICK

WYOMING - BILL LUCKETT

(from April 7, 2008)  Joined the Wyoming Democratic Party staff in August 2005 as communications director.  Before that, he spent nine years as a reporter for the Casper Star-Tribune, the last six covering politics and state government from the newspaper's capital bureau in Cheyenne.  Bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wyoming.  Born and raised in Sheridan.


DEMS ABROAD - LINDSEY REYNOLDS

(held this position during the 2008 campaign)  Executive director of the Virginia Democratic Party during the 2004 cycle; started at the party in March 2002 as finance director.  In 2000, she became the finance director for the Joint Democratic Caucus in Virginia.  Started her career in Virginia Democratic politics in 1998 as the legislative assistant to Stanley C. Walker of Norfolk, then President pro tempore of the Virginia Senate. B.A. in political science from Virginia Wesleyan College, 1998.
