TEXPAC Endorses Gov. Rick Perry for President

AUSTIN - The political arm of the Texas Medical Association, TEXPAC, today endorsed Gov. Rick Perry for president.

"We need a leader in the White House who understands the complexity of the health care system," said Joe Todd, MD, chair of the TEXPAC Board of Directors. "Rick Perry has demonstrated a staunch commitment to repealing federal health system reform, which threatens the importance of the sacred patient/physician relationship. As the son-in-law of a country doctor and husband of a nurse, we know that Gov. Perry understands how important maintaining this relationship is to medical professionals across the county."

"The governor has also led successful tort reform efforts in the state of Texas, helping to protect physicians from expensive, frivolous lawsuits," Dr. Todd continued. "Through tort reform in Texas, Gov. Perry has improved health care quality and accessibility. We know that as president he will do the same for the nation. TEXPAC has endorsed Gov. Perry because of his legacy to support and defend Texas' medical liability reforms."

"I am honored to have the support of TEXPAC and of so many healthcare professionals," said Gov. Perry. "Dr. Todd and the members of TEXPAC know that I am committed to a federal health care system that protects the doctor-patient relationship. They also understand that we need a president who is committed to repealing Obamacare and stopping the damage it will inflict on the American people."

Under Gov. Perry's leadership, the Texas Legislature approved sweeping reforms in 2003, making Texas the leader in reducing frivolous lawsuits. He personally led the campaign to convince Texas voters to approve a constitutional amendment protecting the reforms from judicial assault. Reforming the legal system is one of the four key principals of Gov. Perry's plan to get America working again, and on his first day in office, he will use an executive order to repeal as much of Obamacare as possible.

TEXPAC speaks on behalf of nearly 45,000 Texas physicians and medical students, and nearly 8,000 alliance members. Organized in 1962, TEXPAC is one of the oldest political action committees in Texas. TEXPAC also is one of the largest bipartisan PACs in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs.
