Rep. Tim Scott (SC-1) is one of
two black Republicans elected to Congress (the other is Rep. Alan West
(FL-22)). Scott, owner of Tim Scott Allstate, was elected to the
South Carolina House in 2008 after serving 13 years on the Charleston
City Council. The last African-American Republican to serve in
Congress was Rep. J.C. Watts (OK-4), who finished four terms in Jan.
