Americans for Prosperity Defending the American Dream Summit...2 of 6 > |
Nov. 4, 2011--Former Gov. Mitt
Romney delivered a major speech on
fiscal policy at the Americans for Prosperity Foundation's Defending
the American Dream Summit at the Washington Convention Center.
Romney vowed to cut federal spending from the current 24-percent of GDP
to 20-percent of GDP by the end of his first term. He said this
could be achieved by eliminating and cutting programs, returning
programs to the states, and achieving efficiencies such as cutting the
workforce and consolidating agencies. He proposed specific
spending cuts and entitlement reforms. Romney summed up: "The plan I propose to make government simpler, smaller, and smarter represents the biggest fundamental change to the federal government in modern history. It's a change we're going to have to make if the words 'full faith and credit of the United States' are to mean anything at all." |
