Priebus Elected RNC Chair on Seventh Round  ...4 of 18 >

Members Choose Wisconsin State Chair to Lead Party into the 2012 Elections
January 14, 2011--Maria Cino brought to the race vast experience at the top levels of Republican campaigns, including serving as president and CEO of the 2008 Republican National Convention, deputy chairman at the RNC in the 2004 cycle, political director on Gov. George Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, and executive director of the NRCC in the 1994 cycle.  House Speaker John Boehner backed Cino in a Jan. 12 letter to RNC members.  Cino had to respond to charges about her position on life, and the fact that she is not a member of the committee cost her a bit of support.

Cino received a significant boost after Steele withdrew and asked his supporters to back her, but the 40 votes proved to be the high mark.
