Priebus Elected RNC Chair on Seventh Round  ...6 of 18 >

Members Choose Wisconsin State Chair to Lead Party into the 2012 Elections
January 14, 2011--Reince Priebus makes the rounds on Friday morning.  Priebus, the Wisconsin GOP chair, was a key backer of Steele in the last RNC race and served as RNC General Counsel until resigning in early December to challenge Steele.  Heading into the voting, he had announced support of 40 RNC members and was seen as the leading candidate, although not overwhelmingly so.  Below, Priebus supporters do some visibility.  Bottom, Henry Barbour, the RNC committeeman from Mississippi, was a key Priebus supporter.  Barbour is the nephew of potential 2012 presidential candidate Gov. Haley Barbour.  One of the attacks made against Priebus was that because of Henry Barbour's support he might not run the RNC with impartiality towards all the 2012 presidential candidates.
