MITT ROMNEY ANNOUNCES
SUPPORT OF UTAH SENATOR MIKE LEE
Boston, MA – Mitt Romney today
announced the support of Utah Senator Mike Lee.
“Mike
has been fighting on the frontlines to repeal Obamacare and restore
fiscal sanity in Washington,” said Mitt Romney. “I will need the
support and hard work of leaders like him if we are going to be
successful in shrinking the federal government and restoring America’s
promise of freedom and prosperity. I am honored to have Mike’s support
and look forward to his advice in the coming months.”
Announcing
his support, Senator Lee said, “If Republicans want to repeal President
Obama’s unconstitutional health care plan, restore limited government
and individual liberty, they must unite behind Mitt Romney. He is the
one candidate who will be able to win in November and implement
policies that conservatives like me have been fighting for in the
Senate. Conservatives can’t afford to allow President Obama to have
another four years in office. That is why I support Mitt Romney and
urge my fellow constitutional conservatives to support him as the
nominee of our party.”
Background
on Senator Mike Lee:

Committee, Foreign Relations Committee and the Joint Economic
Committee. Senator Lee is one of the Senate’s strongest defenders of
the Constitution and advocates for smaller government and individual
liberty.

DNC Statement
on Mike Lee’s Endorsement of Mitt Romney
Washington, DC—DNC
Communications Director Brad Woodhouse released the following statement
on Utah Senator Mike Lee’s endorsement of Mitt Romney tomorrow:
“Mitt
Romney apparently isn’t the only Republican willing to etch-a-sketch
his positions and principles for political gain. Just two
years after
basing his insurgent campaign for Senate against Republican Senator
Bennett’s vote for TARP, which he called the ‘largest redistribution of
wealth ever encapsulated in one piece of legislation,’ Senator Mike Lee
tomorrow is endorsing the TARP-supporting Mitt Romney for president.
Mitt Romney has been outspoken in his support for TARP, going so far as
to credit TARP for saving the American economy just last week.
“How
will Mitt Romney justify an endorsement of someone elected on the sole
premise that TARP was a government overreach when he so forcefully
defends the role of TARP in saving the economy? No doubt,
this will
be another etch-a-sketch moment where Mitt believes he can shake his
inconsistencies and lack of core beliefs away to achieve his own
political ends.”
